6 die in suicide attack at Kandahar mosque

A suicide attack in a mosque where several high-ranking Afghan officials had gathered to remember President Hamid Karzai's half-brother killed at least six people and wounded 15 others Thursday, a hospital official said.

The attacker hid the explosive device under his turban and detonated it among a group of people who were reading the Quran at the Sera Jama Mosque, said Sher Shah Yousafzai, the police chief of Kandahar where the attack occurred.

The attendees were mourning Ahmed Wali Karzai, the Kandahar provincial council chief, who was killed Tuesday by a guard during a gathering at his house.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the Tuesday shooting, saying that the guard accused of killing him was working for them.

Karzai was buried Wednesday, with the president in attendance.

If you were living some 200 years ago in England, Dan, would you have referred to our founding fathers like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Ben Franklin as "animal terrorists"? They were doing the same thing to the British then that the Taliban are striving to do to us today!!!

Dan from Detroit- What you stated is very true. America totally changed . That was the old true american spirit, but now it is betrayed by a criminal gang of Nazi-fascists linked to the MIC.

Your are stupid if you want to compare the British with the Taliban! The Taliban are a terrorist organization that wants to oppress their people by subjecting them to cruel and unjust judgment whereas the British wanted to make America their own colony! We are not their to take control, but to help the people to be rid of the terror that the Taliban has brought upon the people and to hold them responsible of harboring terrorists! There is NO comparison!

And salerno you are so mistaken because the Taliban are clearly more like the Nazi's with their ideology of thinking that they are the best of the human race!

Taliban are the opposite of the Nazi as they have not a racist ideology. Racist ideology is unknown ubside Islam, like even the 15 years old Nucular correctly stated. Racist ideology started wuth the Jews believing to be the choosen people by God and continued with the atheists and false christians with their ethnic cleansing around the world. Muslims never did something like ethnic cleansing. The only accusation was made about the Armenian killed by Turkey, but the country negated.

It is sad that something that is supposed to bring peace and finality, such as a funeral, has to be tampered with. But this the rule in Afghanistan: if one thing goes wrong, another has to follow soon after. An interesting way to learn of what is happening in Afghanistan, truly, is to visit this Twitter page: http://twitter.com/#!/InAfghan

+ Taliban laws are directed to avoid corruption inside the people. We are so oppressed in the west by moral deterioration in our custom and the women are an important factor in this process. They must be fairly treated and protected, but they need supervision, control and moderation.

THIS avoids western "corruption?" Laughter? NO schooling for girls? Painted windows? No photography? Get real.
The very LACK of these is corruption and oppression DEFINED. And no doubt there are more rules and strictures afloat in taliban-land. But they are not written down. Nobody can read or write.

"must not talk or laugh in public?"
        "No schooling for females?"

There is education for girls, very better than that obscene western forced education. Bin Laden's last wife received a great education from Mullah Omar. Unfortunately it is not available for anyone, otherwise I would have contacted him to get a good wife.
What refrained me is the possibility to be involved in wars against the superpowers like Russia or USA. I am more like the oldest Osama wife who preferred a quite life.

There is a profound and substantive difference and you cannot dismiss it. Reading, writing, and at least simple arithmetic are missing from the primitive taliban "agenda." Learning these things cannot be dismissed as "western" and bad.
While the word algebra comes from the Arabic language (al-jabr, الجبر literally, restoration) and much of its methods from Arabic/Islamic mathematics, its roots can be traced to earlier traditions, which had a direct influence on Muhammad ibn Mūsā al-Khwārizmī (c. 780–850). He later wrote The Compendious Book on Calculation by Completion and Balancing, which established algebra as a mathematical discipline that is independent of geometry and arithmetic.

Taliban are not the most intellectual people inside Islam, of course. The had always wars, thankls to the western aggressions, and little time for deep education, but amerivans are in the same situation among the western people, with the exception of universities in the tech arena.

Islam is a complex reality. If you are looking for culture and education, Egypt is the brain. If you are focusing on the heart of Islam Arabia is the center.
If you are focusing with the spirit, Afghanistan is the spirit of Islam. Only UK moved 3 wars against Afghanistan and never succeded.

Well, I was in the area when it happened. It was an extremely sick incident and those present were lucky that the casualty toll wasn't higher. Security sucked at the entrance and that's the only reason they got anyone at all. President Karzai has pleaded openly to the people of Kandahar to stop the violence. These are Pashtun people doing this and the President Karzai is a Pashtun. The baddies are killing their own people for no reason at all. Muslims, "by law," are supposed to be a peaceful people. This is by far peaceful. And it's not because we are in Afghanistan, it's because these people that poorly follow the muslim religion will never accept a peaceful society

And you obviously think that doing this somehow makes your positions more palatable for the reader, as if they will be foolish and shallow enough (like yourself) to be persuaded, convinced, and swayed by your spin doctoring.
