Intelligence officials: Suspected drone strike kills 4 in Pakistan

A suspected U.S. drone strike in Pakistan's tribal region killed four suspected militants Monday, Pakistani intelligence officials told CNN.

Two intelligence officials said the suspected drone fired two missiles at a vehicle carrying militants in the Mir Ali area of North Waziristan, one of the seven districts of Pakistan's volatile tribal region bordering Afghanistan.

The intelligence officials asked not to be named because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

Based on a count by the CNN Islamabad bureau, Monday's suspected drone strike was the 27th this year compared with 111 in all of 2010.

It was the latest in a spate of suspected drone attacks that the United States has carried out in Pakistan since U.S. forces killed al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in the early morning hours of May 2.

The recent increase, however, probably is not due to intelligence gained from bin Laden's compound, Bill Roggio, a military affairs analyst and editor of the Long War Journal, has said.

"What has happened since the bin Laden raid is that the U.S. has not felt pressured to dial back the attacks due to Pakistani sensibilities," he said.

On Sunday protesters in Pakistan held a sit-in near the country's main port in Karachi, demanding an end to U.S. drone strikes.

The United States does not officially acknowledge drone attacks in Pakistan, but it is the only country operating in the region with the capacity to carry out such strikes. It was once widely believed that the program had the tacit approval and cooperation of Pakistan's intelligence agency.

When is the last time you convinced a ROCK to speak? It is excactly the same with most of these "misguided, religious zealots"! IF you are to "preach" that the Quran OK,s the killing of the "infidels" and a good Muslim must follow the Quran, then you leave me with only one option, and that is ALL Muslims are a threat to me & my family and therefore must be destroyed! I really find that hard to accept. Those of you that think people are ignorant, stupid, etc., it is time to wake up and smell the roses. These countries are killing THEIR OWN men, women & children alot more than drone strikes. IF I had the power I would immediately bring home EVERY military member and then sit back and watch you kill yourselves into extinction!

Your hypothesis is very unlikely going to happen, I suppose it to be a harmless one, too, but your expection following it of their extinction is an unthinkable and unbelievable crime, kind of true evil.

Its a shame you have to paint us US soldiers as the bad guys, We our all volunteers, willing to risk our lives to defend our country for the same pay if not less Than what you would get from flipping burgers at McDonald's. I believe we our their for all the right reasons, If we weren't their Osama Bin laden would still be alive, and planning attacks on our soil. War is a horrible event. and people die from all sides.. maybe someday war will be abolished and a thing of the past, but as long as the Taliban and other terrorist organization's exist the safety of our country and are children's future is at risk.

Barbatos – You are brainwashed by Goebels-like propaganda. OBL attacked US because Clinton tried to kill him bombing Sudan and Afghanistan. The US embassy bombing in Africa was a reply to the arrest by USA of 4 AQ members in Albany planning to kill Mubaraq. We are endangered by US military operations.

On the contrary I know that Americans are killing women and children all around the world, from Afghanistan top Pakistan,
from Libya to Iraq, Sudan and Serbia. This is why I rejoyce when some US soldier die like happened yesterday.

Another field day for the right-wing thugs in Washington. How repulsive indeed!!! And those same war criminals want to put Mohammar Qadaffy on trial for doing far less than they did! Where's the justice???

Totally agree Dan. Typical use of double standard. The reality is that they kill civilians for oil. Saddam, Ghaddafi, like Chavez are not west-friendly in their oil policy. Americans support the radical Islam in Saudi Arabia, the Wahabe as they are reliable supplier of oil in change of military support against the people asking for freedom. Americans have the same AlQaeda policy in some countries, but opposite policy in Saudi Arabia.

Pakistan was not invaded. Afghanistan was invaded to capture OBL and overturn the Taliban regime, so the americans are trapped there. Democrats are specialists in aging improductive wars like they did in Serbia, where there was not oil either.

The military is the reason why the United States of America exists! And let me tell you Serbia if you did not know wanted to become greater Serbia and slaughtered many innocent Muslims and because of our intervention they now have become a nation that also would like a unified world community!

The military was created later, and was enhanced even later on. Thomas Jefferson and Eisenhauer made interesting statements about the military. Serbs killed many innocents, but at least they did it only in their country and not all around the world like the USA. Petreus is a lot more criminal than Mladic. In kosovo USA fought alongside with AlQaeda and some of them were later involved ioin 9/11.

The US did have military forces before it's declaration. Maybe not the same military, maybe not the same ideals. But there was still a military. The point would be that it was NOT the same as today (even though the American Armed Forces hasn't been around since the beginning, there WAS a military.
