Petraeus condemns Quran burning as protests rage on

Top U.S. officials in Afghanistan on Sunday condemned the burning of a Quran in the United States that sparked three days of protests in which more than 20 people died.

Burning the Muslim holy book "was hateful, it was intolerant and it was extremely disrespectful and again, we condemn it in the strongest manner possible," said Gen. David Petraeus, who heads the U.S.-led international forces in Afghanistan.

U.S. Ambassador Karl Eikenberry said in a statement that Americans respect the Quran "and all religious texts and deplore any action that shows disrespect to any religious faith."

"At the same time, I want to emphasize, as have many Afghan leaders, that to attack and kill innocent people in response to the deplorable act of one individual is outrageous, and an affront to human decency and dignity," Eikenbery's statement said.

Christ said love one another as I have loved you. He also said love your enemies. When Christians say the Lord’s prayer they ask that god forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Sadly the people who chose to burn the Koran forgot these basic principles of Christianity. Instead their ignorance and small minds resulted in an inflammatory insult to people of equal ignorance. Now innocent people are dying because people who call themselves Christians forgot what it means to be a Christian.
    May God forgive you.

There is no way burning a koran is the same as killing a person. What planet are you on?

Why doesn't any American defend Christianity? God says if anyone comes with a different gospel than that of Jesus Christ, let him be accursed. Galations 1:6-12 This is a different gospel

There would be NO WAY I would defend these muslims when they "COWARDLY" kill innocent people all the time in the name of their religion. Why would a Christian defend Islam in any way?

They are not innocent people. They are part of the UN, a coalition of aggressive and murderous forces, attacking Afghanistan.

is this not protected free speech, it is not his fault that someone objected to his actions. Freedom of speech he has every right to burn whatever book he wants.

Does God need someone to protect Him? How puny is a god that depends on the hands on men for protection.

And this moronic preacher in Fl claims to be shocked "shocked!" at the repercussions of his act. Putting Islam on trial and burning a Koran as a punishment for crimes against humanity? The only law broken here is that he's guilty of aiding and abetting the enemy, and there are now 20+ dead innocents added to Fundamentalist Christian body count.
