Vehicle-bomb blast reported near NATO convoy

A vehicle bomb exploded near a military base on the edge of Kabul Friday, injuring at least one person, authorities said.

Initial reports say the blast happened as a convoy passed by with troops with the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force, the force said in a statement. The blast occurred near Camp Julien, where ISAF troops train Afghan forces as well as some newly arriving coalition soldiers.

Earlier reports said the attack killed one person, but Afghan police sources later the bomb caused an injury.

The attack also was near Darul Aman palace, a vacant structure built in the 1920s that through the years has been destroyed by fire, turned into a museum, used as a defense ministry and shelled by the mujahedeen after the Soviets left.

In a separate incident, ISAF said a service member was killed Friday in eastern Afghanistan as the result of an insurgent strike. The precise location and the nationality of the service member were not disclosed.
