Anti-U.S. demonstrators shot by police in Kabul

An anti-American demonstration in the Afghan capital turned violent Wednesday as five Afghan police officers were injured and two demonstrators were shot by police, officials said.

Mohammad Khalil Dastyar, deputy police chief of Kabul, told CNN about 1,200 demonstrators gathered to denounce the United States. He said they chanted "death to America" and condemned the Rev. Terry Jones, the leader of a tiny Florida-based church who ignited an international firestorm when he threatened to set fire to Qurans on the ninth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks.

Dastyar said five Afghan police officers were wounded when demonstrators began shooting and throwing stones at security forces.

Meanwhile, a top hospital official said two protesters were shot in the chest by police. Dr. Kabir Amiri, director of Kabul's network of hospitals, said the demonstrators were being treated for their injuries.

Jones, the Florida pastor, ultimately never set fire to Qurans. Nonetheless, Afghanistan has seen several consecutive days of angry - and sometimes violent - demonstrations in wake of the Quran-burning controversy.

How typical for CNN. Anti-US DEMONSTRATORS shot by POLICE in Kabul. What does the second paragraph say?

"Dastyar said five Afghan police officers were wounded when demonstrators began shooting and throwing stones at security forces."

The headline for this article should've specified that it was "AFGHAN POLICE" ! As it now reads, it leads one to believe that "Americans acting as police" did the shooting !

Funny, you talk about 360 degrees? American Indians pray to the "Four Directions", and their beliefs are respected here with no problems !

Iraq is now three way divided country with peace no where in sight but over 4000 US Lives were WASTED. and still nothing learned. . .

I just got back from there. First of all the hatred for the people in the Middle East is whatever. After just coming back, I've realized they do not want us there and they hate us. I don't see hoe Americans can feel and be passionate for people like that. The only people you see on television are the select few who want to bring in democracy and actually like Americans. The Middle East is a horrible place and we fight everyday for these crazy people who think their religion, and lifestyle is what it should be like everywhere. I do not like the Middle East, I hate it, and everyone one of those people who are threatening the US because of a Quran burning. If there was no Quran and Muslim religion this wouldn't be taking place in Afghanistan and Iraq....Period!

Don't be too sure about that,SK.Haven't you heard of Nationalism? That's what essentially lead to our defeat in Vietnam and the various European countries to rise up against Napoleon early in the 19th century. It may play a role there too.

You're a fool, "John". Well, actually, you're just another Paki terrorist supporter (they're easy to spot). First and foremost, muslims are devoted to their religion above all else. Then comes their particular sect of Islam. Lastly is their tribe. If you knew anything–which you don't, judging by your ignorance about Vietnam–muslims have no sense of nationalism. It's a foreign concept to them, especially in Afghanistan.

Um, my fellow brave Rambo-like Americans:

The enemy there in Afghanistan can and will outlast us. They defeated the Russians and will defeat our troops. Not because they are better militarily but they can outlast us.
Further, picture this happening in your own town.
The Afghans control and patrol the area with guns and bombs.
You rally against foreigners occupying our land. The authorities, backed by the Afghan government, shoot you.
Just for protesting in your own land.

I have news for ya–muslims terrorists have been attacking us for decades. They have their own agenda and intend on attacking us until their form of islamo fascism reigns supreme everywhere. The only way to deal with them is to exterminate them, not by giving in to their demands. Because just like a blackmailer, they'll continue to demand more and more until everything you once had is theirs.
Now consider whether the 9/11 attacks would have happened had Clinton been more aggressive in tracking down those responsible for the WTC carbombing, the attacks on our African embassies, and the attack on the USS Cole.

If they want to protest us, and no one wants to stand up for us over there, then I say we pack up and leave ASAP. We obviously aren't wanted. I think all the Afghans’ have forgotten what wonderful country they had under the Taliban, maybe it's time to let them have that life back. We don't need American's dying, fighting for rights that these idiots don't even respect or want apparently.

SicOf-iT – I totally agree with you! Why fight for something that is not wanted?! The only problem is that the Taliban could rebuild its forces in Afghanistan, which can cause problems here, including a greater risk of homeland terrorism. It is beneficial to have our presence there; however, if we are not wanted, get the heck out of there. Put more into homeland and border defense here instead. Fix up our own country before repairing others. I do realize that there are negative aspects to this thinking though.

      1) Israel illegal occupation of Palestine and land grabbing that its doing for last 60 years.
      2) Kashmir occupied by India for last 60 +years. 100,000 people killed by India.
      3) Iraq occupation by USA on FALSE pretext of WMD – 1 Million Iraqi killed in 7 years.
      4) Afghanistan occupied by USA, 50,000 + Afghan's killed to-date.

After above you try to portray that your religion is so good and teaches harmony. One thing i know for sure that it teaches west to Invade / Occupy all Muslim land with OIL. If someone try to Occupy my Land, I will become Militant too.

Saudia Arabia, Egypt, Lybia, Algeria, Indonesia, Phillipines, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Iran, Pakistan just to name a few Muslim countries or countries with a substantial number of muslims who either oppress their own people or insist that if they dont have their way its ok to bomb others! Remember Bali? Who was oppressing them that they had to bomb Australian Tourists! As far as I am concerned, Muslims need to live in Saudia Arabia! If they dont have any rights there, why should the want rights anywhere else?

Fair is fair, why cant a Texan go to Saudia Arabia? Muslim Arabs are an unfair bunch; they can come to the U.S. and expect freedom of religion, but they go nuts if an American would ask for the same rights in their country! Hell if you are a woman you cant even DRIVE in Saudi Arabia! Camels have more rights here than we do there!
