Medal of Honor recipient: Honor is 'bittersweet'

The first living Medal of Honor recipient since the Vietnam War says his receiving the prestigious award is bittersweet.

“It’s emotional and it’s great. All of this is great. But it does bring back a lot of memories of people that I would love to share this moment with. And I am just not going to have this opportunity because they are no longer with us,” U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Salvatore Giunta said during a teleconference Wednesday. FULL POST

A soldier with the 101st Airborne Division Alpha Battery 1-320th fires an AT-4 during a recent Taliban attack on the outskirts of the village of Jellawar in the Arghandab Valley.

The blast coming from the back of the the anti-tank weapon kicks up a cloud of dust and debris - including spent shell casings from other weapons.

More drone strikes in North Waziristan

A suspected U.S. drone strike killed 12 alleged militants in Pakistan's tribal region on Wednesday morning, intelligence officials told CNN.

It was the latest in a series of aerial assaults targeted at insurgents in North Waziristan, one of seven districts in Pakistan's volatile tribal region bordering Afghanistan. FULL POST

Anti-U.S. demonstrators shot by police in Kabul

An anti-American demonstration in the Afghan capital turned violent Wednesday as five Afghan police officers were injured and two demonstrators were shot by police, officials said.

Mohammad Khalil Dastyar, deputy police chief of Kabul, told CNN about 1,200 demonstrators gathered to denounce the United States. He said they chanted "death to America" and condemned the Rev. Terry Jones, the leader of a tiny Florida-based church who ignited an international firestorm when he threatened to set fire to Qurans on the ninth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks.
