Karzai condemns stoning deaths by Taliban

Afghan President Hamid Karzai condemned the stoning deaths of a young man and woman in northern Afghanistan over the weekend, calling the executions by the Taliban "unforgivable."

"Executing these two young people without trial is a crime, an act of inhumanity, and is counter to Islam," the president said in a statement Tuesday.

The Taliban stoned to death a man and a woman in northern Afghanistan for allegedly having an affair, officials said Monday.

The stoning took place Sunday in Dasht-e-Archi district, in the village of Mullah Qali - a village dominated by the Taliban in Kunduz province.

The pair was accused of having an illicit sexual relationship, a spokesman for the Kunduz governor said.

The woman was about 20 years old and the man was about 27, said Mohammed Ayuob, district governor of Amam Sahib, which is also in Kunduz province. The woman was engaged, and the man was married to another woman. The two had been held by the Taliban for about a week, Ayuob said.

The Taliban is as evil, if not more so, than the Nazis. They must be wiped from the face of the earth. We must stop at nothing. We must spare no expense. We are the good guys, and are greatly blessed – and as such, we have a responsibility to the citizens of this planet. We need to send everything we've got over there...

If they truly found this outrageous – they would stop it. They outnumber them. This isn't England overtaking India. This is a civil INTERNAL issue. If we're going to help, we need to carpet bomb and conquer, but the time for that has passed. It's too late now and they need to tackle the Taliban themselves. This is their sons and their brothers. We are not the keepers of the Middle East.

Unfortunately, because it did not happen within the city limits of Kabul, the only part of Afghanistan Karzai's government marginally controls, there was nothing he could do about it.

A direct note to Mr. Karzai (which I am certain will never see his eyes):

If you condemn these actions of the Taliban as you proclaim to do, then why are these people allowed to usurp your authority? Why are these people not in prison for (amongst other things) murder, false imprisonment, and who knows what else?

Mr. Karzai – actions speak much louder than words. Quit talking about it already and start to do something about it!

Does anyone else here weary of the hate and fear generated? In stead of defending or offending this act, lives are lost, lets change the world to tolerance. Ghandi did it without hurting anyone, MLK did it the same way. Having one foot in the NOW and the other in the POSSIBILITY of Human compasion, Tolerance and Love. I am sure there are countless people on this planet that have contributed to Good, its a shame that the only (for the most part) individual groups making the news are those who kill.

For Karzai to "condemn" it is a tiny step in the right direction, but actions are louder than words. At the very least he should say that 'vigilante justice in Afghanistan must stop immediately. Every person who threw a stone is an accomplice to murder, and we will be pursuing charges against every single person who can be identified.' Of course nobody today will rat on their neighbors, but stopping the dual system of justice needs to start at the very top of government- with Karzai. People need to be put on notice that if they continue to do these things, they'd better start looking over their shoulder for the police coming. And they should be reminded that there is no statue of limitations for murder. The Afghanistan government will track you down no matter how long it takes. (where is Marshal Dillon when we need him?) It will take years to implement- the Taliban must be firmly defeated first- but the message must be clear from the very beginning- right now. If instead we continue to get these 'condemn' statements and nothing stronger, then Karzai has to go, because the Taliban will be right back in power as soon as Obama pulls back the troops as he inevitably WILL do. And with the Taliban will come their Al Qaeda pals coming out from under their rocks, caves and Pakistani hideouts after the previous administration was not able to 'smoke 'em out'.

Hinduism is the oldest organized religion in the world. And I quote from the Torah "they took their magics east". And so it was that the Annointed one was killed for being a magi. Religion is another reason to argue. The Source is not of such. Duality will be left for wisdom. Seek not that which divides but that which unifies. Creation is not the pulling apart but that which comes together and more. Details are not so important to Love THAT WHICH IS. You can only "feel" something so all encompassing not really "know" it ever anyway. We all can only observe what we do through our own experience and in doing so know only our own Truth. Look not outside yourself so much to find that which binds us all. There are many paths (more paths than understanding) but all lead to The One. Know Thyself. And so it is.

This is what Quraan says about war.
You may kill those who wage war against you, and you may evict them whence they evicted you. Oppression is worse than murder. Do not fight them at the Sacred Masjid, unless they attack you therein. If they attack you, you may kill them. This is the just retribution for those disbelievers.

Sadly, the Taliban does not treat their women with any degree of civility. So, they will lose their women to the ways of the West and the men will have no one to keep them warm at night. The Afghan women see our women everyday now, in uniform as soldiers, side by side with our men, treated with respect. We are strong and independent and we will not be 'tamed.' This must be sent to every member of our Congress and to our Armed Forces. This is why we fight for their freedom to make their own choices of government and why it will affect our freedom and our choices of morality. Can we turn our backs on those who have no way out? The people of the land have no choice without us. If the Taliban take complete control again of that country they will have an endless supply of soldiers to send to America thru our borders and into our Universities to unite with the radical elements already present in our country. Free Afganistan and we will keep ourselves free.
