Top military official: WikiLeaks founder may have "blood" on his hands

The top U.S. military officer said Thursday that Julian Assange, founder of WikiLeaks, was risking lives to make a political point by publishing thousands of military reports from Afghanistan.

"Mr. Assange can say whatever he likes about the greater good he thinks he and his source are doing, but the truth is they might already have on their hands the blood of some young soldier or that of an Afghan family," Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, said at a news conference at the Pentagon.

In equally stern comments and at the same session, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates said the massive leak will have significant impact on troops and allies, giving away techniques and procedures.

"The battlefield consequences of the release of these documents are potentially severe and dangerous for our troops, our allies and Afghan partners, and may well damage our relationships and reputation in that key part of the world," Gates said. "Intelligence sources and methods, as well as military tactics, techniques and procedures will become known to our adversaries."

If the US has not gone off chasing the Iraqui red herring, all those resources might have been put into Afghanistan when they were really needed. People in the 19th SFGA have now served 4?6? tours of duty and they were never supported the way the way the Saddam witch hunt was.

Bush should have been impeached for this stupidity – why not try him now under the war crimes laws for starting a war just because he had a grudge against Saddam 'cause his daddy didn't lick him the first time?

Mary M. Pharisee opposing Jesus were cow worshipers and they opposed Jesus with their Hind (filth) called wisdom but not truth. Only a enemy of Jesus can like the Hinds and rest assured I am not one of them but a ardent opponent of Hind (filth) as Jesus was.

Bush-Cheney should be brought before a war crimes tribunal to investigate if they knew the Billions of free taxpayer dollars Bush-Cheney were giving to Pakistan were going directly to the Taliban fighters to murder American and NATO soldiers. It appears Bush-Cheney had full knowledge of that thru America's CIA who has a close relationship with Pakistan's ISI for the past 30 years.

Sorry, but I do not believe one word that comes out of any Pentagon official. The truth is that we have a Government that is totally corrupt at all levels. Foremost Congress and the Senate. Please, do not insult my intelligence blaming the whistle blower for deaths to come. And please, stop the insanity that we are "safer" because we are at war. A society that has whistle blowers is a society with hidden agendas. Period. No hidden agendas, no whistles to blow.

Typical BS spewed by the real terroists to clear ground for another occupation and mass murdering. Leak my a$$, basically a deliberate attempt to misinform the public via 'leaking' information (read lies) to show that 'oh...we need to invade the next country now because thats where the real culprits are'.
In my experience people all over the world are same – they are inherently good. But governemnts are pretty much always bad or corrupt. And none is more so than what we have here; all that comes out of them is nothing but lies and racism, very disappointing.

Just watched a certain James Young on CNN Connect – he failed to explain with even one word why it was nesseccary for WikiLeaks to publish the names of Afghan people working together with ISAF Forces against the Taliban.

Instead he talk rubbish like an alcoholic about misinformation and propaganda wars. He was either under drugs or is in total denyl of the fact the WikiLeaks has made itself willingly the source of death for many people who just hope for a better life for their children in a Taliban-free Afghanistan. Mr Young is certainly happy that he does not know these people and that their families are too poor and too far away to sue him and WikiLeaks in a US court and to teach him a lesson or two about real life an Afghanistan that Mr. Young seems to believe only he knows about. Mr Young must feel great to have found himself an ideology that allows to murder people in the name of the goals of that ideology and to put human life below his empty rethoric.

By the way: Stalin and Hitler had such ideologies, too!!!

Don't wanna be a martyr in this war
Don't wanna hear the same excuses anymore
    That everything's a threat
And it's only gonna get worse if we let it

Don't wanna blame the rich for what they got
Don't point a finger at the poor for what they have not
Though the politician and the priest
Live in the belly of the beast because we fed it

    Freedom is seldom found
By beating someone to the ground
Telling them how everything is gonna be now!

any blood on his hands would be a tiny fraction of the innocent civilian blood that the US military has been spilling for decades... why would we want the military to sanitize the records before they are released to the public? the notion is ridiculous as everyone knows they will lie to cover their own (see Pat Tillman)

i pray that more whistleblowers come forth because they do a MUCH better job than the actual media in finding out the truth.

not only do i applaud wikileaks and its founder but I keep my fingers crossed that the smoking gun shows itself and everyone involved is tried for warcrimes.
i understand the soldiers are being put in a tough position but that is what they are being paid for and what our elected officials keep voting to fund with money we don't have.

bring them home and end this nonsense. we are certainly not more safe than we were 10 years ago

If you ask me our military has blood on their hands. The troops are in a hell of lot more danger just being in Afghanistan than they are from leaks! The only ones that benefit from this war are the people that Eisenhower warned us about " the military industrial complex". The rest of us, middle America are a bunch of saps for supporting this "misadventure".

Thank you Neo. This is a very true statement. anyone who has been to the middle east knows how relentless these people are. Clinton saw how much of a problem Bin Ladin was and made several unsuccessful attempts to kill him. Had he been successful (not that I blame him) we wouldn't be there. Afghanistan has been home to terrorist training camps for decades. In order for us to be safe we need to make Afghanistan a safe place for peace not a terrorist safe haven.

      Right on Tomba!
This corporate controlled government has far more innocent blood on it's hands than wikileaks. For decades we have attacked other, usually small, poor countries to enforce "our interests", slave labor, compliant governments and raw materials.
We claim to be fighting "terror" but how is that possible when WE ARE TERRORIST and we support other terrorist like the zionist regime in Israel who now has our support to attack Iran.

As a unbeliever, I am offended by all this religious hate speech, please lay off the hate folks, too many wars have been started by religious intolerance.
No I do not dislike Jews, only those who are brutal, criminal zionist.
I also do not dislike Muslims, only those who are brutal extremist same goes for any other belief system.
There seems to be too much hate and intolerance around done in the name of some religion.
