American arrested for hunting bin Laden

A 52-year-old American citizen who said he was searching for Osama bin Laden was detained in Pakistan near the border with Afghanistan this week, Pakistani police said Tuesday.

The Californian named Gary Faulkner was carrying a pistol, a sword, night-vision equipment and Christian religious books, said Mumtaz Ahmed, a police chief in the area.

Faulkner was detained as he was walking from Pakistan toward the border into Nuristan province in Afghanistan, Ahmed said. He told police that he had been looking for bin Laden since 9/11 and had traveled to the area several times before, Ahmed said.

U.S. Embassy spokesman Richard Snelsire did not confirm that Faulkner had been detained but said that the consulate in Peshawar did receive notification of the detention of an American citizen. Snelsire said they were trying to get more details.

"We're hoping to get consular access to the individual," Snelsire said.

Faulkner told police that he had no intention of killing bin Laden, Ahmed said. But police believed he was trying to kill bin Laden because of the weapons he was carrying, according to Ahmed.

CNN's Reza Sayah and Samson Desta contributed to this report.

You're most probably right since Osama bin Laden was already suffering from nephritis back in 2001 and is in all probability dead.

How hilarious must his final "there's no turning back" checklist been before embarking on his "quest"........my bible...check..........my bag of weed...check......my six-shooter...check.....water?.....naaa, better pack the samurai sword. This of course is do to the high number of impromtu sword battles that tend to start up in the middle of the desert.....

so lets say he is alive and well, does this mean even though he is on the terror list with an reward that someone would get in trouble for hunting him?? I believe George Bush declared the reward dead or alive and I don't think he specified who was allowed to complete the job. I also don't believe Obama has updated or changed any of this since.

Someone still looking for bin Laden????? The only thing that can save Obama is finding bin Laden......almost 2 months later he is going to meet with BP.....OK....sooooooo if we have someone attacking the country I guess we can suspect that it will take him to get a committee together....talk about it....play golf....and act like there isn't a war going on.....why should he? It isn't in his backyard.....until then maybe he MIGHT DO SOMETHING....Someone needs to make sure this man that tried to get bin Laden back to the U.S. and make him a HERO.....I wish I had the guts to do what he did!!!!! We need more men like him....but...I also think bin Laden is dead too.

Excellent! Can we please get more of our delusional, supposedly Christian, right-wing nut jobs to go over and join the hunt for a guy who died in 2002-2003? You know, the guy our government has been keeping alive as the boogie man to keep all of us in a state of fear and hatred for arab people? It's been a great diversion for the US masses to keep them from complaining about all the illogical stuff that happened starting on 9/11/2001.

So what is the one guy going to go when he finds bin Ladens compound? Fight off the inevitable army that surrounds him with a pistol and a sword? I think they should let the guy go too, so he gets caught by the bad guys and removed from the gene pool.

He would have turned on his 'night vision equipment' and with a flurry of ninja sword moves and small arms fire exterminated the entire Bin Laden compound. Then he would have left behind some Christian reading material so that anyone who happened on the site would know that Jesus himself showed up and put the smack down on those cave dwelling fools!
