Officials: Taliban executes boy, 7, for spying

Suspected Taliban militants have executed a 7-year-old boy, accusing him of spying for the government, officials in southern Afghanistan said Thursday.

The execution took place Tuesday in the Sangin district of Helmand province, said Dawoud Ahmadi - the provincial governor's spokesman.

In the past, militants have carried out similar killings of those accused of spying, Ahmadi said.

Three years ago, a 70-year-old woman and a child in the Musa Qala district of the province were executed following the same allegations, he said.

During a news conference Thursday, Afghan President Hamid Karzai said officials were looking into reports of the execution and said he condemned the act if it is confirmed to be true.

"I don't think there's a crime bigger than that that even the most inhuman forces on earth can commit," Karzai said. "A 7-year-old boy cannot be a spy. A 7-year-old boy cannot be anything but a 7-year-old boy, and therefore hanging or shooting to kill a 7-year-old boy ... is a crime against humanity."

"If this is true, it is an absolutely hiorrific crime," British Prime Minister David Cameron said during the news conference on an unannounced stop in Kabul. "If true, I think it says more about the Taliban than any book, than any article, than any speech could ever say."

So american border agent shoots a 14 year old mexican boy in the head and people is like "he is an illegal, he had a stone, he deserved it". Then taliban kills a 7 year old, and people are like kill the taliban. WOW....america, your priorities are really screwed up! basically it is not who gets killed but whether you think should be killed.

Guys the good old U.S.A. is not going to get out of Afganistan until a stable western favoring regime is in place. Reason why? The former USSR needs to get a pipeline built thru Afganistan to be able to export their natural gas from the "stans" to western countries va shipping. Again, $$$ and oil/gas are the main reasons we are all over there fighting. Do you guys honestly believe our governments really give a sh^% about helping poor people? If thats the case why are we not all over invading poor african countries whose citizens suffer at the hands of tyranny? Oh right there is NO OIL in most of those countries....

Unless you have ignored history completely you should know that Europe has invaded all the countries of Africa. It was the European countries that took the African tribes and forced them into false boundaries that became national borders. The Europeans keep things in check and built roads and hospitals and schools. When they left the tribal mentality took the people in most of the nations back into a barbaric mind set where they just started to butcher tribe on tribe. BUT It was the Taliban that supported the al-Quadi (sp) before, during and after the terrorist attack on the USA. That is why we are there. I realize you are from Canada and don’t care about what happened in NY, but please keep in mind that we do not go to war lightly. And as for oil and other riches in Africa, there is a LOT of oil and diamonds and gold and other riches in sub-Saharan Africa.

The nations of the world need to agree that any person, nation, or political group who deliberately cause harm to a child, shall be declared unsecure and subject to swift justice and punishment in any nation on earth. No exceptions. The death penalty should be mandtory for individuals as well as members of the military of any nation after conviction in trial by random international tribunal. Any nation or group refusing to be a signatory of this international accord would be declared a "rogue" state or organization and be treated as an international pariah.

What is more shocking...executing a seven year old boy or bombing a house when you know multiple children are inside?

Obviously, there are nuances...the two acts are not the same. Point is, this is a dirty war against dirty opponents. We want them dead because they are not nice people, but we are also willing to do some very dirty things to get them.

Nothing about the Taliban should surprise you. If you don't want to watch this ugly game, look away from the screen.

As for Islam supposedly being involved....these are actions of human beings who make choices. God is not to blame. Much as I don't like Mohammed, he is not to blame. The human beings who did this evil thing...they are guilty. Don't blame God for human choices.

The 2 acts are exactly the same, one is just a bit more hidden than the other. In all of America's wars we hear the Generals saying all the time "we do everything we can to minimize civilian casualties", which is a lie. They have a formula where they put in the value of the target, the likelyhood of him being at a certain location, the range of expected "collateral damage" (civilian deaths) and the formula tells them whether or not to proceed. e.g. if there is a 90% chance of killing a top level target with colateral damage of 10 – 20 civilians then the formual will tell them to to ahead. e.g. even knowing that 10 – 20 civilians including women, children and babies are likely to be killed, the strike will be ordered. This is not "doing everything you can to avoid civilian casualties". Doing that would be not allowing any strike with a possibility of "collateral damage".

They are a bunch of fools lead by the teachings of Sayyid Qutb who is a malignant narcissist that hated America because he was rejected by American women. The Taliban are fools who violate every principle of Islam for hatred and their treatment of women is in direct conflict with the teachings of the prophet Mohammed.

You must evolve to realize that we are all human beings regardless of race or religion. You have fallen for the oldest war propaganda trick in the book – convince your population that the entire race of the enemy is sub-human and collectively guilty of the crimes of a few and deserving of death. By believeing this then you also must accept that every American is guilty of the crimes of the Bush administration therefore "nuking" the entire US is a just and valid response.

Tyler, look at the legal system...it does not work. The countries that deal with an eye for an eye actually have the lowest crime rates across the world, her in north america we give our criminals more rights then the victims. We coddle them we protect them we release them to commit further crimes. But no where after they have committed each crime, one worse then the next, do we ever ask "How did they get out to begin with?" If you need proof of that just look at ANY crime against women. They have less value then the precious dollar in your back pocket....to the law.
Yes, exterminate...and as for CIA nice concept, I agree they would do such a thing, but not in this case, its just not necessary. And as to why the US gets picked on if you do or don't? Take a look at the US past, redemption will be most difficult. As it goes, when one is a bully, expect eventually that the little bullied one will retaliate, and when they do, watch out, the school system can teach us that. Taliban is not about that the boy was a spy, its after control and what better way to obtain it amongst the people, sick, but effective. Lets all do a history lesson first then speak, no defense until you know why!!

This and the murder of elderly people and other children or lone women is just the selection of the helpless and vulnerable at random to show that the Taliban are strong. And Mambisa makes a great point. Those "blood-thirsty, mutated, tyranical demons" were allies of the United States at one point. We gave them thier weapons, trained them, and put them in power during the Cold War. As much as I love and defend my country, I can't turn a blind eye to the fact that we share a blame in all of this. To forget history is to repeat it, and as much as it hurts, I do not hold my country innocent. To do so is ignorant of all of you. We put them there. During the Cold War, we followed the mantra, "the enemy of my enemy is my friend." And after we gave them the guns, we left them there in a country devastated my the U.S.S.R. without giving them any aid or reconstruction. We've done more to aid them after bombing them ourselves. Again, I don't support the Taliban, but we all need to look at our history and realize that we played a major part in putting them in power before we start flying off the handle about how ruthless they are.

Situations like this make it clear that we can't let current and former Taliban "people" off the hook. If they're capable of doing something like this, then they're too far gone. We (the West) will not be able to stabilize the region – it won't happen. However, we can defeat the Taliban. Hopefully, the next group or groups of people who assume “control” of the region have some amount of reverence for life...and can give folks there some hope.

however horrific, this is not a shocking action coming from these mentally mutated freaks of society. i read an article recently where African tribesman who have lived in the bush for centuries have recently taken radio locating equipment from researchers and are aiding in the tracking and preservation of wild lions due to the amount of poisonings and outright kills by African cattle ranchers. Tradition in these tribes in the past has been the kill of a lion is a huge deal, a right of manhood and a major step up in the tribe's caste system. My point is these religous zealots who have no conception of morality, or common sense perform these senseless acts in the name of tradition and God, when clearly by taking a step back and looking at the way they choose to live is by all accounts barbaric, silly, narrow-minded, and dangerous, -they still just dont get it. And in citing the previous article I think of these tribesman who for hundreds, maybe thousands of years have held these traditions and killed lions for their way of life, change their ways on a dime to help the lions thrive, just because a researcher comes in and lays some facts on them. I am just at a total loss when it comes to the taliban or any religous extremists for that matter, wake up!, help yourselves, your kids, your society. open your eyes, and use some common sense, do you think god wanyts you killing 7 year olds in the name of saving the world from the infidels? heres an idea, kill yourselves and go ask god what he wants, ...freaks!

Escalation of violence is the reason we don't follow "an eye for an eye". When does it all stop? We quickly lose track of who started and why and thus wind up in a never ending escalation of retaliation. The Middle East is a perfect example of that. As a Jew (and one that has never killed anyone Fawad!) I blame both sides for an inability to restrain and take the people into consideration. Hate drives hate. Just read this thread and you can tell whose parents taught their children to hate another race or religion.

Jerry, thank you for such nice articulation. Good to see that some people don't go into hate mode. I would like to answer your questions, though. Yes, I've studied the bible for years, while I was on an earnest quest for something to believe in. My rejection is not of Jesus's teachings; it is a rejection of the idea of a god who actually exists. After years of searching, EARNESTLY, mind you, I was left with the realization that there is no god of any kind. It was not an easy place to arrive at; certainly not popular in this culture.

I do not lump Islam in with Christianity for any reason other than the belief in an imaginary god. There are lots of good discussions on the web on this topic, of course, and I realize this isn't one of them. But you were civil and heartful, and I wanted to let you know that there are also plenty of people who don't believe in any god of any kind who are good, kind, loving and heartful people too. I don't miss having a god in my life, and I've heard all the preaching I want for a lifetime, so while I appreciate other peoples' concerns for my afterlife, I have no concerns at all. Thanks for the comment.

        @ Jerry
Are you saying Christianity is not a "man-made" religion? Really? Here's a little bit of information for you. ALL religion is man-made! Buddhism, Taoism (which are more of philosophies)Christianity, Judaism, and Islam are all "man-made." Somebody told a story that someone else liked, and they ran with it.
Now for all the Christian extremists on here:
All of you condemn Islam because they are all "evil". Then when someone says that Christians have done the same thing, you say that "it was a few people in the past. Have you studied the entire Bible?"
        My response:
Have you studied the entire Quran? If you did, you'd know that Allah is your God. In fact, it's Arabic for God. Like Dios is Spanish for God. It's the same god! Different messiah, same god. To top it off, Islam regards Jesus as one of the 5 major prophets, along with Moses, Noah, Abraham, and Mohamed. Islam even refers to Jews and Christians as "people of the book" and states that Muslims should treat Jews and Christians with special regard as they believe in the same god. Does Christianity or Judaism make any such concession for believers of ANY other faith? They didn't the last time I checked. Seems like Muslims are shoving your "love thy neighbor" speech right up your own high-road claiming @$$.

Jerry, that second part really wasn't directed at you.

Man, Jerry, you are misguided. You can have ALL of those things WITHOUT a god or God or Jesus or Muhammed or Allah, or anything. All you need is yourself and faith in yourself. There is no need for you to spread such lies about this earth. BUT, if you want to believe all those fairy tales, go right ahead, just please, keep it to yourself and let people find it or not find it for themselves. Understand? Okay.

It has nothing to do with Islam in general. The form of Islam that these whackos are practicing (Wahbism if I remember correctly) is a perverted form of the religion, very similar to the perverted Christianity promoted by Jim Jones, David Koresh, et. al. Islam, in and of itself, promotes peace and tranquility. For those that argue that it doesn't, I suggest they delve into the Bible and discover that it's just a violent and intolerant as they say the Koran is.

This conflict is NOT about religion! They're trying to make it that way so they can justify jihad, etc., but the bottom line of this war is about terrorists and terrorism, REGARDLESS of thier professed religion. Kill 'em all and let God (be it God, Jehovha, Allah, Budda, etc., etc., etc., etc.) sort 'em out.

If you really believe that, then I suggest you read up on history a little more. If not, then I suggest you quit lying. By the way, the vast majority of the atrocities committed in the past century were not committed by Christians, Muslims, or any other religion... they were committed by atheists.
        Stalin's purges – easily 10,000,000+ deaths – atheist, anti-religion
Mao Zedong – several tens of millions of deaths – atheist, anti-religion
Hitler's Holocaust – ~8,000,000 deaths – something between a pagan and an atheist at the time
        Kim Il Sung – 1,000,000+ deaths – atheist, anti-religion.
Deaths from WWII – 50,000,000+ – instigated primarily by Hitler (something between pagan and atheist,) Mussolini (atheist, anti-religion,) and Hirohito (something between pagan and atheist, basically worshipped himself)

Calling for the eradication of Islam is merely creating another Jihad. It suggests ignorance and poor insight. By remaining strong in the belief of liberty, freedom, and the inherent worth of all life, American and her allies can maintain the moral high ground.
For those of you who blame religion the text isn't the problem. People are. Placing blame on a philosophy may make you feel righteous in your rant, but ultimately discredits you in the eyes of the 85% of human beings who believe in a higher power. Islam is 600 years younger than Christianity. 600 years ago Christians were burning women at the stake for knowing about natural medicine. All Islam needs is time to grow and evolve. In today's world that can happen rapidly if people are willing to be accepting and open minded.
I'm 17 years old, I'm gay, I live in a rural OKLAHOMA community, and I am a Christian. Local churches have berated me for a long time, but in that I have learned much. Terrorists, manipulators, evangelists, radicals, and all the others who hide behind a false banner are the true enemy. Let us not blame a hijacked philosophy for the actions of corrupted men.

it saddens me to read some of these responses. For those that think Islam is a religion that wants to kill all infidels, please "get a clue!"! if you know how to read, inform yourself on Islam before venting out such stupidity. There are religious fanatics in all religions, who misinterpret and distort the msgs and/or writings of their religion and to use them as a generalisation of that religion is a big mistake. Just like with catholics, and the problem of pedophiles and how the pope and others have made efforts to hide or protect those who have commited those horrific acts on children. Should we now say that christian religion is one of pedophiles. I have lived in Afghanistan for many years and i can assure you they DO NOT raise children to hate. Yes the people may be informed incorrectly about the outside worl and truths may be distorted but folks we do that too here and Bush was an excellent example of that. Give the afghan people, the muslim people the benefit of the doubt that they can make the difference between good and evil, between truth and lies, just as you want them to think that you are good and just and not Islam haters. Extremist are of many nationalities, religions, and colours! Don not limit yourself!

US troops have to kill children that are laiden with bombs on the roads of Afghanistan and Iraq all the time. Children are not innocent! Get used to it. A boy at 7 years old can easily be manipulated. Born and bred to carry AK-47s and bombs and to be used as fodder. Women and Children (civilians) in the Middle East are used as bait for American Soldiers to not shoot because we don't want to kill them. The Taliban and other terrorist factions in the area try to use this to their advantage. I have a friend who was there, and had this to say: "It doesn't matter who is pointing an AK at you, when it's your life or his, age is meaningless." Why the Taliban decided to make a public announcement over it? to show that the other side is just as sick as they are. Someone trained that kid... Someone pushed him into the front-lines. Someone was giving this kid direction. If that's not true, then the Taliban wouldn't see him as a threat.

1- send children of responsable up for adoption in other more stable contry (should not be parent anyway)
2- Super impose torture scene by corrupted official in controls zone of the child in step 1 (special effect we dont hurt kids never)
3- Tail corrupted official of step 1 and 2 by limiting is movement for some other security concern (coward anyway)
4-Let tali-bans of step 1 send a squad to kill know corrupted official.
5-(1)Arrest squad and tell them the the people that send them their knew it was a set up and send them to get killed because they think they where traitor or tag them and realse lack of proof (2) send them back to identifies the faction in step 1 with order to liquidate them ....

When was the last time the US has had the capital punishment on someone and found out they were innocent? I think there have only been a few in history. Latest on in the 70's or 80's. We have an appeals system and a nonprofit organization called Innocence Project that make sure this does not happen. It's one thing to keep quiet and have people think your not smart and another to open your mouth and prove it.

To Pat: the last time the US executed a 7-year old child was a 6-year old in Iraq by Army Private Steven Dale Green. The time before that was probably in Vietnam at My Lai and the time before that was on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Of 22,588 executions in 70 countries between 1994 and 2002, 19 of these executions were of child offenders, put to death in five countries. Twelve of these killings occurred in the USA and until March 1, 2005, the United States was the only nation in the world that permitted the execution of children under age 18. See, our crimes are not that far behind the terrorists.

You've got to be kidding me. To kill a little 7 year old boy. He was just that a little boy. I beleive that the taliban are some of the most ignorant people that we have on this earth. I don't beleive that a 7 year old boy would no how to spy let alone care about what anyone is doing. I surely hope that something is done to these people that did the killing. It makes me so angry. Let the children of any race be children. Let them be little. They are so innocent to this stupid war stuff.

I do agree with you Dan. This poor little boy got screwed over. If he was or wasn't spying he shouldn't have been killed. If he was working as a spy, the idiot government should have known better as well. Someone's child is dead, the government isn't doing a thing and the Taliban thinks it's ok to do this. They should have leveled that place years ago when they said they would. Take the women and children out and just level it. Very sad day for this 7 year old boy and his family if he had any. I wonder if anyone found out his name at all either. May he get some well deserved rest, especially from that horrid place he lived in.

he campaign to delegitimize Israel continues. Bloody knifes held by the thugs who attacked Israeli soldiers have been cropped out of photos. “Eyewitness” accounts of those claiming that the "peace activists" did not engage in violence continue to be broadcast despite the contradictory video evidence. And many in the media ignore the fact that Israel facilitates the delivery of true humanitarian goods into Gaza every day.

Together we ARE making a difference. We have seen stories in the major media that do tell the truth. By spreading video footage, images and cold hard facts around the world via our website and our social media networks - the story is being told.

I put forward the technique on how to capture the brains behind the taliban and the crazy fanatics on the most wanted list like bin laden, back in 2004-2005. It was a very detailed theory and included were suggestions on how to carry out the theory with of course offering up that there could be tweaks to the plan. My motivation was the $25 million per head bounty. The theory took alot of research and time, and I knew that there would be collateral damage however the tactics employed by the religious manipulators has to be stopped- if the killing of a child had to occur my thinking was that it would shake muslims who are older to act against the religious manipulators. What I probably also realized was that my theory and plan involved the same deception the government put forward when they announced the $25 million bounty per head- there would always be an excuse to not pay out. Having said that, in 2006 in Iraq a few on the list were killed and the government announced they would not be paying the bounty- obviously directed to me the way the announcement was made. Today I have the satisfaction of knowing my theory works and has been implemented- I would ask that the government payout the money owing otherwise as I put forward above when the religious manipulators kill a child they expose their lie, when the government doesn't act on a bounty they expose their lie- there never were any conditions on who put forward the "kill plan".

how could Islam not be to blame? They did it in the name of Islam, are they misguided, sure, but they did it none the less in the name of Islam. If your religion tells you to go around killing anyone who does not agree with you, like Mohammad did, and you will go to paradise and be a martar, if you are devoted to it you will do whatever it tells you, maybe its time we look at this "religion a little more in depth, it was created as a war maching to take over the middle east, he called it uniting but its the same thing when you kill people who do not agree with you......go educate yourselves people, read up on the prophet of Islam, his life, and make your own decision about Islam

If islam truly taught violence and distruction, i can guarantee you that United States would be blown up right now of the millions of muslims living in America. They need a better leader not a change in religion...

the entire logic of the Muslim/Moslem world is archaic and brutal, favoring only grown men. too often those grown men are still operating in the pattern established several thousand years prior to this second millenium the rest of the world is growing into. Remember, there were serious complicit personel from America arming the middle eastern areas for multiple decades prior to 9/11. When we the people allowed our Federal Government to play war makers we became one of the most despised Nations on the planet. Were it not for our higher level of weapons we would have suffered much worse indignities from the idiot populations of the Muslim World.
