Court: Detainees held by U.S. in Afghanistan can't appeal their detention
A federal appeals court in Washington ruled Friday that detainees held by the U.S. in Afghanistan are not entitled to the same right as prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to challenge their indefinite detention.
A three-judge panel of the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia ruled unanimously that prisoners held at a military prison at Bagram Air Base are in a "theater of war" and not under the jurisdiction of the U.S. civilian courts.

Profiles of 5 U.S. troops killed in Kabul blast
A suicide bombing on May 18 in Kabul, Afghanistan, killed at least 18 people.
The blast killed at least a dozen civilians, five U.S. troops and a Canadian service member, officials said. It occurred on a busy road near a NATO-led military convoy and a registration center for the Afghan Army.

Service member killed in southern Afghanistan
A service member from the NATO-led force in southern Afghanistan was killed Friday in a roadside bombing, the International Security Assistance Force said.
It is the latest troop death in clashes between militants and forces from the NATO-led command and Afghan government.
