Pro-peace cleric killed

An influential Muslim cleric, his brother and a driver were killed in an ambush in eastern Afghanistan, authorities said Monday.

Gul Rahman and the two men were killed Sunday evening, said Edress Gharwal, governor spokesman for Kunar province.

They were killed by those who are against peace and stability, Gharwal said. He did not provide details.

Rahman is an ex-Islamic Party member and influential in the province. He joined the government and was instrumental in pushing for peace and stability in the country through a reconciliation program.

The Interior Ministry is investigating.

I have to say it, but its a bit nerve racking, but I no longer believe in religions. I use to, but no more. Mostly because so much of it is like fairy tales, make believe, twisted history, and then add in the goofy Muslim extremists with their ridiculous bombing of innocent people, and Christians with their extremist history as well, all under the name of God. Any God too, no discrimination here.

In my life time I have seen so much senseless murders and killings under the righteous name of religions that I no longer care for any of it. Catholic priests have been proven to be molesters, and the Pope remains silent....what the hell is that? Taliban throwing acid on young teen age girls, burning and blowing up schools. Al-Qaeda killing innocent people in 9/11 and in their own local markets with suicide bombs strapped to young men who are disillusioned about the world. Taliban covering their women in burqas and treating them like they were dogs. Iran killing their own citizens so their goofy dictator Ahmadinejad can stay in power, and all the extremists talking Islam and love out of one side of their mouth, and yet killing people indiscriminately and saying it is 'God's will' out of the other side.

I'm sick of it, and I hope the U.S, attacks with all guns blazing and killing every damn one of the extremists. Unbelievers..? You ignorant cavemen will never get it, and you are insuring the eventual extermination of your own people by your own religious beliefs that have not proven nothing...nothing at all.

Rock back and forth while you memorize your verses, but in the end you have condemned your innocent Islamic people and all Muslims as well.

If Muslims or Islamic followers can't police their own extremists because they're afraid, well those of us who use common sense can and will. They are a primitive religion living in the 8th century...there is no way in hell they would ever convert me even with a gun to my head. Prey on the innocent and make them your bombers....that is a horrible way to try and make people believe in your ridiculous religion. This is the modern world, and either you join the rest of us, or plan on being extinct. Not by war, but by common elimination known as survival of the fittest. Trust me when I say the extremists are not fit for human kind, that is just common sense which they have none.

Rayal, I feel your frustration. Look into the Law of One. Not really a religion, just a belief. It gave me a sense of vindication because it reinforced many things I have thought/theorized over the years, but weren't answered by religion (I've looked at many). It's given me a sense of calm I have't been able to get to in quite awhile...

Muslim clerics: mullahs, muftis, ayatollahs, ullemas, etc are the main instigators of world terrorism and violence. These guys are the "Shariah" tribunal judges who without mercy or compassion condemn people to the worst atrocities: stoning, limb mutilation, lashes, honor killings, beheadings, etc. They control governments and societies under their own Quoranic interpretation. Muslim clerics are the pillars of Islam monstrocities, lack of freedom, hate, vengeance and hostilities.

the u.s.president carter/state department secretary brezenski intentionally provoked the soviet union into invading afghanistan,1976-1979,to recklessly and irresponsibly, get revenge for the french-colonial contracted,u.s. invasion/war in vietnam, which ended up killing hundreds of thousands of vietnamese, citizens of laos, then exspansion of u.s. air bombings, land mines, illegal troop occupation, etc. of cambodia, which led to thousands of cambodians dying, then led to the rise the genocidal cambodian khmer rouge, who killed over 2million of their own citizens! then after pres.jimmy carter, committed this criminal act,and u.s.pres.ronald reagan, replaced carter, then reagan committed worst crimes,i.e.,iran-contra arms for hostages operation;continued support for repressive, mass murderous, right wing dictators in central america, south americathe, caribbean sea,and placing iraq's brutal dictator saddam hussein in powe, giving hussein biological and chemical weapons to use against sunni kurds, shia arab iraqis, and shia iranian armed forces in the iran-iraq war,1980-88,which ronald reagan recklessly intended saddam hussein to start and o course led to a worldwide oil crisis.i also know that ronal reagan was not interested in supporting the democratic iranian opposition, who had also opposed the repressive,american-backed iranian shah, from 1953-1980.;but the most dangerous deed committed by the u.s. reagan administration, which included then defense sec. donald rumsfield,then-c.i.a. agent/now defense sec. gates, then c.i.a. director bill casey, etc, was the selection of the most violent, deadly, and maliciuos,anti-communist/anti-soviet bloc, which included hindu-dominated india, islamic sect(demonination),the wahbi-sunni extremist, such as usama bin laden.the reagan administration, encoraged repressive,pro-american gov'ts,such as wahbi sunni saudi arabia,military-controlled pakistan(archenemy of india,as a result of reckless british colonial actions),margaret thatcher's united kingdom, etc.,to help organize,train,radicalize,fiance/fund,and equip, the sunni extremists, such as the western-backed,transnational M.A.K.,which had bin laden as one of its leaders,1978-1990,and theu.s.back mujahhadeen, which became the pashtun-dominated taliban movements, operating in disputed kashmir(claimed by both pro-western pakistan, and then-soviet influenced, hindu india);pakistan;and afghanistan. the reagan administration, also trained m.a.k. members, such as bin laden,at the C.I.A.'S NEW YORK CITY,N.Y.,AREA,URBAN WARFARE CENTER,1980-1990;allowed renegades, such as,U.S. SENATOR CHARLIE WILSON,WITH C.I.A. HELP,to arm the then anti-soviet,but also anti-western/anti-female misogynist mujahadeen;also the't actively encouraged the both foreign jihadists, such as bin laden and domestic mujahadeen, such as current afghan taliban, etc.,to use the drug trade, human slave trade, etc.,to both supplementally fund the anti-soviet war,and to also infect the the soviet troops with drug addiction.the taliban movements and al qeada network still rely on drug profits for terror acts.also by recklessly creating this drug crisis, the't has doomed the people of afghanistan, former soviet republics, such as russia, europe, and north america, including american people,to a terrible drug problem.also,it is almost impossible to assist the afghan farmer to stop growing opuim poppy or hashish(similar to marijuana).therefore,'ts have placed afghan president kazai and this, taliban murdered, afghan cleric, along with the rest of the world,in this deadly situation, with the radical sunni extremists.i can only hope that one day the world can correct this u.s. created situation.thak you!

"May 17, 2010 A wave of bomb and gun attacks across Iraq [last] week exploited a leadership vacuum and the emergence of a powerful Shia coalition, with the aim of re-igniting sectarian bloodshed, analysts and politicians said." @@@@ America/NATO troops have moved on to another country to fight before Iraq was free from every known terrorist(?) in Iraq. Or would it be impossible to kill every terrorist?

Manmohan Lal, obviously you are Indian. Does this mean you are just like the majority & hate everybody that is not Hindu?
Your country, India, has slaughtered thousands of innocent people for nothing more than having faith in GOD & his son JESUS CHRIST. Yet you sit here & brag about India's intensions of annexing Pakistan through attrician of another countries war on another country. You say it like you are proud of it. You have the disease that Charles spoke of"hate".
I pray that GOD has mercy on your soul.

You guys are so naive. As long as their is violance in Afghanistan, USA and allies can not leave.

Common sense, India will never let peace be brought back in Afghanistan as long and untill our goals of annexing Pakistan are achieved.

It is our fault for putting it out to the media that he was working for peace and working with the government, and thus making him a target. We shouldn't be going around making announcements when we have a religious leader, or any kind of leader trying to work with towards our goals, unless we can protect him. Which in Afghanistan, we can't even protect our own soldiers with all the weapons and resources, much less some poor mullah that lives in the community. When I was attached to the three Brigades I was advising, I was lucky enough to have commanders that understood their limitations, and agreed that we should not draw attention to communities or players in the communities that are trying to do the right thing. We knew that it would make great story boards, but we will be endangering their lives. Because, believe it or not, it might not even be the "taliban" who killed them, it might just be a jealous tribe/community that lives right around there and feels like its competing for resources, our resources.

That's the Obama way. Show your cards so your enemy can inflict more damage. For someone who's supposed to be such a smart guy, he continually shows his inability to do the task at hand. Consequently, others are paying with their lives.

I wont be surprised if Indian agents brought him down. As long as there is no peace, USA and allies will have to stay in Afghanistan.

and we can work under their noses to achieve our own goals to annex Pakistan. Smart !

The greatest drug on the planet is hate. The weak mind always wants more. Only when everyone you know has died and you have nothing left does the drug weaken. By then it's too late. It's a difficult job not hating, takes guts, that's why so few try it.
Normally the word "cleric" in the papers has the words radical and Muslim in front of it. I feel for Gul Rahman's family. It's a shame that the drug addicts got him.
