Pakistan is 'epicenter of Islamic terrorism'

The suspect in the Times Square bombing attempt was caught as he was seeking to flee to Pakistan, a nation that analyst Fareed Zakaria calls the "epicenter of Islamic terrorism."

"It's worth noting that even the terrorism that's often attributed to the war in Afghanistan tends to come out of Pakistan, to be planned by Pakistanis, to be funded from Pakistan or in some other way to be traced to Pakistan," said Zakaria. He added that Pakistan's connection with terrorist groups goes back decades and has often been encouraged by that nation's military for strategic reasons.

Read the Q&A with Zakaria, author and host of CNN's "Fareed Zakaria GPS," about the ideology that drives the terrorism, Pakistan's stance on militancy and lessons learned from the Times Square incicident

As a third party observer, I am deeply sorry for the young and women who had to pay the ultimate sacrifice to keep the United States and the rest of the world safe. The military commanders and the political leadership should rise above themselves and get their act together.

Can they imagine how it would feel to argue in front of the graves of those fallen warriors and their families whose faces they never even saw?

The Pakistan should transform itself from being the Epicentre of voilence it should emerge as a epicentre of islamic nation's resurgence they should unite all the Islamic nations into a block on the lines with Non Alianed nations or Saarc
models and bring about a total change in the power balance.

If this combinations happens which is only remote will form a formidable combine and will pose a threat to the West who has always been dividing these vulnerable nations and exploiting them or thier oil needs and if they combine and use
their resources wisely they can contribute to the growth of their republics and to the world at large.

To begin with Pakistan should organise the meeting of all Gulf republics and other Islamic nations and should discuss
ways and means to combat terrorism whose roots has been home grown and joint survigilence accross all these
republics will drive the terrorist out or will bring them main stream with this half the job done. On the second leg of their planning these combined should ask the forward nations like USA, UK and the likes not to meddle with the region as they have done enough to undo this mistakes it is going to take ages for these republics.

The Islamic salvation Army with soilders from all muslim nations should be formed to combat any external threat at the same time a peace committee consisting of member from all islamic nations should make ties with countries on trade and business and this will augur new aura of frendship minus enimity or voilence, for one decade the combined consortirum should take a resolve not to engage in warfare either among themselves or with neighbour unless warranted and every thought and decision should be made collectively which will ensure wider discussion instead of knee jerk reaction.

The basic tenets of Islam does not and will not propogate voilence and district levels committes head by clergyman should propogate this and bring in an end to the social disconnect that this communities is suffering and herald a
paradigm shift in perspective and focus only on development and infrastructure.

From being termed terrorist to leading the entire islamic nations to progress is a shift that pakistan should take and that will augur welll for all.

The people all over the world have been shouting at the top of their voices that terror is emanating from Pakistan. Now, the US has agreed to this fact officially.
Hillary Clinton has given a very old ground fact, a new voice, saying that some people in Pakistan Establishment know , where Osama-bin-Laden and Mullah-Omar are holed- up.
History of Hiding Osama-bin-Laden & Mullah -Omar is very old. It starts right from the action by the Coalition Forces against the Taliban Rule. They never went towards Tora Bora area, but instead were taken to Pakistan. First they were kept in Karachi then to Peshawar and then to Islamabad. My guess is that both these criminals and their other cronies are holed up some where in a Pakistan Military protected area. It could be in Chitral range or near about. An area, where US Forces can not approach by Air or Land.
USA has no idea about the policy and strategic thinking of the Pakistan Establishment.
US Establishment has been so naive, though they have been training Pakistani Armed Forces Officers since the time of Ayub Khan, but has never understood the embedded strategic planning and mind set of these officers. The USA has come across so many instances of Pakistan, indulging in dangerous acts such as providing direct help to militants operating against India, Russia, Afghanistan, UK, China and USA. The US forces helped to evacuated regular troops of Pakistani Armed Forces caught in Afghanistan during US invasion. This was the biggest act of Pakistan caught openly.
The US Govt doesn't have good strategic Analysts and thinkers, who can put things in black and white for the US President. Such analysis, based on hard facts can really help the US President to decide the fate of the concerned people, be it Americans or others outside USA.
The US President will have to clean the rot, which has set in over generations in the US Administration. First the Rot has to be identified, then only it can be cleaned. Unfortunately, the actions of USA, effect so many people around the Globe that her actions are a cause of worry for all around the Globe. Fate of Humanity is decided by one nation known by the name of United States of America.
The American Governments have been fooled by one small rouge nation known as Pakistan since almost six decades. I think the Americans lack basic wisdom. I wonder reasons for such shortcoming.
I only request Americans to wake up and do some serious homework/ hard thinking, before it is too late ,even for Americans.
I just learnt through today`s paper that Mullah Omar has been taken in custody by Pakistan Establishment.
God be with US of A.
God bless rest of Humanity as well. JAI Ho

It is not Islam vs WEST and has never been,.. why people in west still embracing Islam

On the contrary most of the support to the terrorist organizations came during the military dictators, Zia Ul Haq did it openly, and after 9/11 Musharraf did it through his double game by making a fool out of the Americans.

Think about it logically ! ! Thats the only cunning way they can attack Pakistan through training and funding of terrorist that both Pakistan and USA are fighting. It is a crap shoot with the Predator and Reaper drones firing anti-tank Hell Fire missiles at homes, convoys and individuals in Pakistan. When the intel is bad the results nearly entirely fan the flames of hatred and anger from hundreds of neighbors and family members over the deaths of innocent individuals. It is not entirely a win-win solution as collateral deaths and damage can be considerable and the American public is seldom informed of gross mistakes made by Predator or Reaper strikes.

During the Bush-Cheney administration it seemed the vetting process was sadly lacking in actually determining someone's actual involvement resulting in a very large number being released from Gitmo after it became apparent the military tribunals couldn't even find enough evidence against them for any sentencing. Sadly, after being tortured and imprisoned for many years those same individuals grew very militant and nearly all took up arms against America upon their release.

In short when the vetting on these strikes is poor, positive outcomes are nearly non-existant with drone attacks. And when a lower level Taliban Clan chief is targeted and killed by a drone strike, nearly 100 family members and clans men take up arms to not only replace that minor player but effectively increase the problem by another 99 militant fighters that are more than willing to murder American tourists, journalists and soldiers.

If Pakistan was a wealth country, then the opportunists dare not use the Pak soil for their agenda. But unfortunately the real problem should be stated as . . ."Pakistan is the epicentre for opportunists'. Now those opportunists include foreign countries trying to push their own agenda, due to its strategic location, causing choas. Pakistan has had wars with India and India has used Afghanistan as its base to attack Pakistan in those wars. Afghanistan is a poor country too and is also manipulated and is free for all especially for India to plan its agendas against Pakistan especially promoting violence within Pakistan territories. This fact is already public and is taken for granted surprisingly ! ! !

Pakistan's Foreign Minister, in his recent statement, has made an attempt to rationalize this car bombing plot , by terming it as a reaction/reparcussion/retaliation against the Drone attacks in Pakistan. The Pakistanis have justifications for every act of terror.

The world has miserably failed to deal with Pakistani duplicily at all levels. On the one hand they would want the world to provide concrete evidence before they would move against the potential terror elements, as if the onus is on the rest of the world, on the other hand their intelligence apparatus would do all it can to provide cover for such act ! When caught red handed, they would ascribe such irregularities to a few rogue elements within the intelligence community ! You can do nothing about such duplicity............

On one hand they would cooperate with the US in the investigation ( as they have no choice, they would get exposed if they don't), there has not been a single conviction in connection to the Mumbai killings, even after two years ....they are waiting for India to provide clinching evidence, as their own intelligence would do nothing ....... !!

When an entire nation is bent on passing on the blame to the whole world for everything that goes wrong, and go soft on these terrorists, when the intelligence appratus of the nation is determined to be selective on investigations, you can do nothing about it.

The only way to deal with the Pakistanis is to make the whole nation accountable for each and every act of terror outside its border, that could be traced back to Pakistan, and when there would be immediate repraisal for such acts.

@Smith in Oregon, I agree with you. But Pakistan gov must show the will and courage to take effective action against the terrorists, enact new laws to prevent future repeat of mistakes like training terrorists, ban such organaisations that are detrimental to itself. The country which will be most affected by a civil war in Pak will be India. It happened in east Pak before creation of Bangladesh. If Pak were to show conviction to make the region a safer place I believe India/Indians will the first to lend a helping hand. At this point in time all Indians think they need is build a massive fence and seal the border and keep the bad elements on the other side.

Perhaps what is being missed here is the provocative words, 'epicenter of Islamic terrorism'. In the not to distant past, these trigger and buzz words were used by the Bush-Cheney administration to describe Iran.

Unlike Iran however, the world knows Pakistan has several nuclear weapons and has successfully tested them. Pakistan is also rapidly deteriorating into civil unrest and governmental corruption as military leaders become ever more hesitant to wage war on those they see as freedom fighters and previously trained, helped and armed them.

In effect outside nations are calling upon Pakistan to conduct a civil war of fratricide upon their own citizens, brothers and sisters in arms. Be that as it may, INDIA should be moving to directly become more of a active supporter of minimizing the spill over of violence from Pakistan into the adjoining regions and nations.

There is nothing new in the statement that " Pakistan is the epicentre of global terrorism".

The Americans have known this for decades, but chose to act only after 9/11 happened to the US. They chose to provide cover for Pakistan by sweeping the issues of terrorism and Dr AQ Khan's nuclear scandal under the carpet.

Now the Obama administration is under the illusion that Americans can be saved from terrorist attacks, by cutting deals with the Pakistani army.

It is hard to figure out the strategic compulsions that forces the Americans to go soft on the Pakistani Army and the ISI, instead of punishing them for what they have done all these years.

Let us not forget that "Pakistan" is really "The Islamic Republic of Pakistan". This means, just like in the case of Afghanistan and Iran, that the government is motivated by the doctrines of Islam and dedicated to the spread of Islamic power throughout the world.

Here is a sampling of the doctrines of Islam which motivate the hearts and minds of all religious Moslems, including those in Pakistan:

–“ the (only) religion (acceptable) before God is Islam." (3:19)
    - " If anyone desires a religion other than Islam, never will it be accepted of him." (3: 85)
    - “You are the noblest community ever raised up for mankind.” (3:110)
    - The unbelievers among the people of the book and the pagans shall burn forever in the fire of Hell. They are the vilest of all creatures. (98.6).
    - Surely the vilest of animals in Allah’s sight are those who disbelieve. (8.55)
–The unbelievers are your inveterate enemy. (4:101)
    - Mohammed is God's apostle. Those who follow him are ruthless to the unbelievers but merciful to one another. (48:29).
    - It is unlawful for a believer to kill another believer, accidents excepted. (4:92)
    - Believers, take neither the Jews nor the Christians for your friends. (5:51)
    - Make war on them until idolatry shall cease and God's religion shall reign supreme. (8:40)
    - Fight against them until idolatry is no more and God's religion reigns supreme. (2:193)
    - The true believers fight for the cause of God, but the infidels fight for the devil. (4:76)
    - We will put terror into the hearts of the unbelievers. (3:151)
    - I shall cast terror into the hearts of the infidels. Strike off their heads, strike off the very tips of their fingers. (8:12)

    - Muhammad said to the Jews: "If you embrace Islam, you will be safe. You should know that the earth belongs to Allah and His Apostle, and I want to expel you from this land. “
    - Allah's Apostle said, "You (i.e. Muslims) will fight with the Jews till some of them will hide behind stones. The stones will (betray them) saying, 'O 'Abdullah (i.e. slave of Allah)! There is a Jew hiding behind me; so kill him.' "
    - Mohammed said, "I have been ordered to fight with the people till they say, "None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and whoever says, " None has the right to be worshipped but Allah , his life and property will be saved by me." (otherwise it will not).
    - Mohammed said, "Whoever changes his Islamic religion, kill him."
    - Mohammed said, " No Muslim should be killed for killing a Kafir" (infidel).
    - Muhammad said: "Fight in the name of Allah and in the way of Allah. Fight against those who disbelieve in Allah. Make a holy war, …"

In addition, the most popular manual of Islamic sacred law, approved by the highest Islamic religious authorities of Jordan, Syria, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, says: "Jihad means to make war on non-Muslims." What could be clearer than that?
