Photo Spotlight: Combat Outpost Bari Alai

A rifleman with 2nd Platoon, Troop C, 3rd Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, Task Force Destroyer, fires an automatic grenade launcher during a small arms attack on Combat Outpost Bari Alai in early April. The base came under fire from anti-Afghan personnel with automatic machine guns about seven hours after a sniper also shot at the base. Neither Afghan National Army nor International Security Assistance Forces were injured during the attacks. Anti-Afghan forces have repeatedly targeted the base, located in eastern Afghanistan’s Kunar province, in an unsuccessful campaign to drive ANA and ISAF from the area.

At least these troops had a automatic grenade launcher to fight off any swarm attack upon their adobe walled outpost. Far better than a M-4 underpowered automatic weapon firing the inefficient 5.56mm rounds which routinely jams with the grit and sand that enters it.

Way to go guys and gals hold on to the outpost, but we really need to surround Kandahar and move our troops in. Then when the Taliban try to flee we will be there ready to kill any Taliban or foreign fighters trying to flee. The atrocities that these terrorists have committed or are willing to commit deserves only death so do not take any captives. Death and God's judgment is the only thing they deserve! They think we're going to go in Kandahar in the summer lets surprise them and go in now before they send in anymore bombers be it suicide, cars or animals that are strapped with explosives!

My hope is that this war ends soon. Vain is the effort to glamorize the war, to cover it up under the magnificent Nature's fasade. The old adage that War is hell still applies! I wish that these soldiers, all soldiers returned soon, today, to their families! A home in a shantytown is prferrable to a palace in a war-torn territory! There is nothing more deceiving than the beauty in Afghanistan, today. It's like seeing things under the haze of opium. It's never the real thing. The real beauty shines forth only when God, the Prince of Peace, rules a territory! I wish that this war were over, tomorrow!
