Official: Donkey cart explodes at police post, killing 3 children

[Updated, 4:26 p.m.] Officials now say at least three people were killed in the blast. Four others were wounded, officials said.

Zalmai Ayoubi, spokesman for the Kandahar government, said three children were killed by the blast, and two police and two civilians were slightly wounded.

A spokesman for the Taliban, which claimed responsibility for the bombing, said 11 people were killed in the explosion.

"Today's donkey cart bomb explosion was on foreign forces, which killed 11 foreigners and four were injured," Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi said.

Ahmadi said the bombing was in response to the planned U.S.-led offensive to oust Taliban fighters from the volatile Kandahar region this summer.

"Our message in this is to tell them we are present here and now we are showing our power, too," Ahmadi said.

[Published, 11:46 a.m.]

A donkey covered with explosives and carrying a remote control detonator blew up at a police post Monday in the city of Kandahar, killing a boy and wounding four other people, officials said.

Zalmai Ayoubi, spokesman for the Kandahar government, said a young boy was killed by the blast and two police and two civilians were slightly injured.

The attack took place at the Fazladding Agha escort post of the Afghan National Police in Kandahar, said Mohammad Shah Khan, assistant police chief.

Why CNN and other western media ignore incidence in Peshawar Pakistan, where more than 25 people died in religious gathering – and infact this is not the work done by famous "Taliban" because the gathering was arranged by the religious clergy and against the Pakistan Government. Are they not human being or their lives are not not worth mentioning.

The Taliban are actually lower forms of life then even the donkey they used to murder, and maim people with. These two legged animals use children, women, and now animals to do the job that none of the cowardly Taliban have the guts to do themselves.

I'm not advocating animal abuse which this is, but I wonder if some of those fearing for the donkey carry plackards supporting a different kind of cruel death.... abortion of inocent human babies.

The question I have is where is the Muslim outrage at this? Where are the corageous Muslims? If they are so peaceful where are the peace marches by muslims, where are the Holy Imams standing up and saying this is wrong? I dont see any, as far as I am concerned they are cowards unwilling to stand up to the bruatality inflicted upon them by there fellow muslims.

Yet it does, deeply. For someone to do that to a trusting animal, an animal that has worked faithfully for its owner - it is pure evil. Anyone with a moderate understanding of electronics can jury rig a garage door opener to set off some TNT or an old Soviet-era artillery shell. The real question here is how effectively are the Taliban in convincing the average Afghan that their damage claims are correct and the government/Western claims about dead children are false. People already predisposed to resent a Western presence in the region will more readily believe that the Taliban are careful to avoid collateral damage. The same holds true whether the observer is Pakistani or Polish. This same story, when told by the "other side" would blame any children deaths on bad old Americans, or it would alter the deaths to be foreign invaders instead of local kids.

Bottom line: the actual truth doesn't really matter in these kinds of stories...it's all about how many people can be swayed one way or another.

Shame on anyone involved in killing children... these Taliban give Islam a bad name, but Islam is indeed innocent of their claims..." You shall not destroy houses of worship, nor kill women, children and those who are not fighting you regardless of their faith, nor you shall destroy trees and vegetation." these were the directiosn of the Prophet Mohammad before his army engaged in any war...and so Islam preserved this principal alive for centuries..it a shame that whomever they call themselves Muslims kill other innocent defenseless population..

Well which is it, 11 killed or 3? Lets see pictures of the truth and expose the liars as such. That would be news, not more heresay that has become the standard for "news" outlets.

..and there are those that suggest that they want to negotiate with these Taliban vermin? Each and every one of them should be hunted down and exterminated.

Remote control detonator = cellphone. Very easy to get and cheap, too.

News as these will not help the Taliban. This episode indicates that these thugs are getting more resourceful in preparation for the oncoming offensive. It would be wise if the police stations had cameras to identify all visitors. The Afghan media ought to condemn this killing publicly! Another big question is, where are the Taliban getting remote control detonators and the know-how on their operation? If Afghanistan is incapable of training its own secret services, it ought to subcontract such services from abroad for the remainder of the war! My condolences for the family of this boy. He didn't deserve this!
