Taliban members killed in southern Afghanistan

At least 16 Taliban members were killed during an Afghan/NATO-led military operation in southern Afghanistan, a local official told CNN on Saturday.

The operation started Friday night in Babji village of volatile Helmand province - the region where U.S. and British forces are gearing up for a major push against militants.

Abdul Satar Merzakwal, Helmand's deputy governor, said the purpose of the mission was mine-clearing.

With all of the Opium dollars pouring into the hands of the Taliban, its likely a simple task to call up 16 more fighters out of the bullpen to replace those that were killed. Isn't it time for everyday American's to demand their government stop defending the Opium poppy fields as directed by the CIA to the American and Allied troops? The resulting Heroin tidal wave sweeping the earth is bankrolling the Taliban and turning thousands of America's grade school children into heroin addicts.

Mines need to be cleared somehow on the multiple paths of the offensive. I wish I had a map in front of me to see where is Babji. I would use some rake-like device that can be dragged either from a helicopter or a roller in front of a tank, on a boom. Paths need to be cleared somehow for the advancing army from various angles. I wonder of those paths could not be cleared by small bomblets shot by the thousands into the ground.

To minmize losses, form a unit that can live and fight like talibans.Unit who can speak native languages, possibly with afghan ancestry to mix with locals. Unit that can ambush and attack taliban caves and camps and can live off with the environment and stay behind for weeks or even months.

Maybe that will make them think twice about talking on the Afghanistan, English & American forces!!! It shows us training the Tribes to take care of Them self both Farming and Fighting is the best way to go... It is working in Iraq & starting to work in Afghanistan!!! With Pakistan & the CIA fighting them there... Pretty soon they won't have any place to go!!!
