On patrol near Mongo Khel, Afghanistan

A soldier walks down a slippery trail near the village of Mongow Khel, in the Logar privince of Afghanistan. The soldier, a member of the 118th Military Police Company out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, was on patrol with officers of the Afghan national police to speak with village elders in an effort to build a good relationship with the local population.

Nuf said about the landmines. I'm sure we've been out of that business for some time now. As an old ex "box kicker" and pallet pusher, I'm sue some of the stuff we've sent over there was pretty weird, but landmines, no.

Thank you to the men and women who serve our country, and proudly
    I might add.
My brother is back overseas for the third time in three years.
Working in intelligence, his exact location can not be made known
to us. We pray for his saftey and the saftely of the others from
around our country and from foreign lands who work tirelessly to keep the
"sick" people from making other countries "sick" too.

    @ A. Smith

You're quite wrong actually. We haven't used landmines for quite some time. If you really want to bitch about what we're doing to Afghan children, you should at least know something about the situation. You could whine about predator drones killing innocent civilians, which, under the circumstances is regretebly hard to avoid since the enemy hides behind innocent children. You also might consider proof reading your posts before you share them with the world.

What I find disappointing is the brevity of this article. Surely there must be more to say about such a meeting. Where is the in depth news we need to judge whether our efforts are making a difference or not? Where is the Afghan input regarding this meeting. What exactly is to be discussed and what incentives are to be given? These and many more questions are not discussed here. I don't consider this news, it is just mindles verbiage.

With hundreds of thousands of landmines from the Russian troops in Afghanistan previously, plus any the American and Taliban forces have added, would make walking appears to be a well trodden mountain path a very dangerous patrol.

For many years after the last America soldier has left Afghanistan from this specific war, landmines planted by American, Allied and Russian troops will continue to kill Afghanistan children and resident for decades to come.

@ Larry, don't worry about what most people think. if you believe you are there for the right purpose that would be appreciated. most of afghans who are in and out of Afghanistan mostly read news sources and are aware of good and bad happening in the country.
I as an afghan really appreciate the troops who are back there and playing with their lives to help our people and fight against Taliban.
