Militants attack near army barracks in Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan - The Afghan National Army and international soldiers fought off an insurgent attack near army barracks in southern Afghanistan Friday morning, authorities said.

"An attempt has been made by insurgents to launch a co-ordinated attack on the Afghan National Army in Lashkar Gah," a statement from NATO's International Security Assistance Force said. "Although firing continues, the attack has been contained by ISAF and [Afghan National Army] forces."

The attack was largely limited to a four-story building near the barracks and mostly involved gunfire, the ISAF statement said. Five or six suicide attackers also got into the building but were stopped before all of them could explode their suicide vests, Gen. Maiuddin Ghori, commander of the Afghan Army in Helmand province, said.

The spokesperson to the governor told CNN all the attackers had been killed, and there were no reports of civilian casualties.

When they are not educated & are told that if They Kill Americans & Their Enemy they will go to Heaven!!! That is Why The Country is trying to get Them a education so They can take care of Themselves... There are People that are no better here... They believe the Lies of The Republicans because it keeps things better for them!!! Rather than what is best for the Country...

war is hell, but our news channels are focused on Haiti, and not the War...What ever happend to having 'Inbedded" newsmen and women with the troops ? American is becoming to lax in what's going on with this war on terror..

CNN did an excellent job on reporting the war in Iraq, but seems to have less interest in Afghanistan..So get back out there and suport our troops..

    God Bless them all..

What kind of human being would wrap explosive on himself or herself and for what cause? Obviously these fanatics believe in what they do. My sense is that these are people unable to find a virgin here on earth. The Taliban tell them that they will get many in heaven. And they, in their proverbial ignorance, let themselves to be sent to useless death! For there will no virgins in heaven for baby killers, only lasting fire and sulphuric stench!

I feel there is good and bad when going to war with another country we all know the impact that it can have on the soldiers and ther love ones. Its not a easy job but this world should be thankful to have men/women to give there lives for others. As this war reveal its not going to be easy but as long as both governments meaning the US and Afghan officials keep debating instead of coming to a agreement and sticking with it this will continue to happen. I just say pray for the men and women and best outcome.
