Talking with U.S. troops in Afghanistan

Most of the new combat forces are expected to head south to places like Kandahar province, where troops there say they are needed. "We need the help down here. Even though we're handling it on our own," one said, "we need more forces down here." Troops say it will help them get to know the Afghans in their area, which could encourage the Afghans to cooperate. More forces would also help them with "IED Alley," or Highway 1, notorious for roadside bombs.
