Pakistan reacts angrily to tone of U.S. questions

The United States is pressing Pakistani authorities for answers about how Osama bin Laden could have lived close to a major military base near Pakistan's capital without the government knowing, two senior U.S. officials said Wednesday.

The al Qaeda leader was living in a walled compound in Abbottabad, about 50 km (31 miles) north of Islamabad, when he was gunned down by American commandos in a pre-dawn raid Monday. The killing has left Pakistani officials facing sharp questions from Washington - and in some cases, from their own people - and exacerbated an already rocky relationship between the two nations.

Pakistan military and government are US allies. AlQaeda was not born in Pakistan, and Taliban were supported by USA and Saudi Arabia.

Pakistan pays U.S. lobbyists to deny it helped bin Laden
    By Tim Reid Tim Reid
Thu May 5, 6:53 pm ET

.WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Pakistan's Washington lobbyists have launched an intense campaign on Capitol Hill to counter accusations that Islamabad was complicit in giving refuge to Osama bin Laden.

Alarmed by lawmakers' demands to cut off billions of dollars of U.S. aid after bin Laden was found living in a Pakistani safe house for six years, President Asif Ali Zardari has ordered a full-court press to quell mounting accusations that it helped the al Qaeda leader avoid capture.

Mark Siegel, a partner in the Washington lobbying firm of Locke Lord Strategies - which is paid $75,000 a month by the Pakistani government - told Reuters on Thursday he had spoken twice to Zardari since U.S. special forces killed bin Laden on Sunday, and "countless" times to the Pakistani ambassador in Washington.

"They are certainly concerned," Siegel said, adding that suggestions the Pakistani government knew about bin Laden's whereabouts was nothing more than speculation.

Referring to a statement by President Barack Obama's counterterrorism adviser, John Brennan, that there must have been a support system for bin Laden inside Pakistan, Siegel said: "There is no proof that a support system was government-based."

There is much at stake for Pakistan as many lawmakers question how bin Laden could have lived in a large fortified compound close to a Pakistani military base for so long.

Some members of Congress are now demanding that nearly $3 billion in annual aid for Pakistan, included in Obama's 2012 budget, be blocked until the Zardari administration explains how bin Laden lived untouched just 30 miles outside Islamabad, the Pakistani capital. Pakistan has received over $20 billion in U.S. aid since the September 11, 2001, attacks.

Patrick Leahy, the Democratic chairman of the Senate subcommittee that allocates foreign aid, said on Thursday he wants a complete review of U.S. aid to Pakistan.

Leahy said he was certain that some Pakistani military and intelligence officials knew that bin Laden was hiding so close to Islamabad.

"It's impossible for them not to have some idea he was there," Leahy told Vermont Public Radio.

But Siegel, referring to claims by the Afghan government that Pakistan must have known bin Laden's whereabouts, said: "Must have known doesn't mean knew."

Siegel's firm was retained by the Zardari government in 2008 and has earned nearly $2 million in fees since then, according to Justice Department records. Siegel said his firm is paid $900,000 a year by Pakistan.

Since bin Laden's death, Siegel says he has been on Capitol Hill every day to promote Pakistan's position on the bin Laden killing, talking to congressmen, senators and their aides.

Interesting. OBL had some help in Pakistan for sure. A lot of Pakistan people are supporting OBL and AQ.
Anyway Pakistan consigned many suspected AQ members (even many innocents)to USA, including M: Khalid, whose informations were determinant to find OBL. Possibly OBL had some help by someone inside PAk gov. or military-ISI , but an investigation should be required. The compund was not a military basis, so how the military could know OBL was inside ? As killing Osama most of people of Afghanistan is happy, and repaired their trust on Obama and his commitments against terrorists in Afghanistan and Pakistan , people would more trust on international forces if they arrest those slave of Pakistanis in Afghan government, who thinks like Taliban and supports them and do lobby for them on TVs and on newspapers.

First, the ISI is a big terrorist service and second all Pakistan is a dangerous disaster for all the world, soon and late the world have to get strong decision regarding Pakistan and their slaves in Afghanistan,

we need to have coordinated and integrated plans to make the countries and to bring prosperities for the human being, not like ISI to produce terrorist for the Human being, and be caution where the Osama killed ( in Abattabad) there is some people who migrated from Afghanistan about 100 years ago, and they are the people who are involved in Aqani group , who is the part of Alqaeda, Osama also killed in the mentioned area Abbatabad! main sources of Aqani and Aqaeda group, also these people collect their alms ( Zakat ) for the Taliban and Alqada every year and they have the helping centers there to collect money for the Taliban and Alqaeda, raising many questions, why Pakistan government has no information about them? or they do their work together with Pakistan government? and they also have some high officials in ISI and in Afghan government too,

These families have their houses and properties there in Abbatabad Pakistan, which Pakistan given them, do you think so Pakistan given them on free? this are the people who escaped form Afghanistan, and they have two identification cards, one from Afghanistan and other from Pakistan,
All border areas in South and west of the Afghanistan have two identification cards Pakistani and Afghanistani , which they are the main resource and runners of the barbarism and brutality, smuggling, suicide bombing in the region and in the world.

And on the other hand this people who have lived in Abbatabad has properties and houses in Kabul and in Afghanistan too, it shows whenever Pakistan wants, can interfere in Afghanistan through their mentioned slaves, and most of them are involved in ISI and they also have jobs in Afghan government and in INGOS, and NGOs ,

Well, one can have different interpretation about US success against Al-Qaida by eliminating its top leader OBL in a very surprising US commando operation in a military cantonment area in Abbot Abad Pakistan. Some very basic question on the part of USA and her Ally Pakistan needed answers to decide whether it was a success or extreme failure for humanity in this universe. However almost every one in this universe understands that USA was a master mind in the creation Osama Bin Laden therefore the war on terror is just a US’s reaping of what they have sown in this region, particularly in Afghanistan and Pakistan. For USA handling of Osama was not a problem at all but rather he was a blessing in disguise for USA in expanding military Empire by turning Afghanistan into a regional military base. In Pakistan CIA has always been a king maker therefore had and has sufficient number of the big one in Pakistan as their most obedient servants, ready to scarify entire Pakistan for USA. These few in Pakistan and CIA were and are partners in running the show, fooling respective nations and plundering respective national wealth to carry on their death merchandise in world politics. So this was a business matter and Osama’s character helped both Master and servants, playing with billions of dollars of only US national tax Payers and at the cost of hundred thousands of innocents’ civilians in Pakistan and Afghanistan. In 1995 Sudan had offered help in arrest of Osama and in Afghanistan Mullah Umar tried to find some face saving steps to expel Osama from Afghanistan and similarly ex President Clinton intentionally ignored action on authentic intelligence. I being a tribal in FATA, even on this page, used to criticize both USA and Osama for our three decades long sufferings in their wars on our soil and I used to condemn both Osama and Obama for making our FATA a front line in war on terror however after Osama’s killing in US’s commando operation in servants/ Partners compound may later prove Osama a victim of US global designs. History is recording and media is sharing all what is happening around us in this world today. So in this globalization age when future will expose all these evil and inhuman games, I see all spitting on the evil character of CIA in the making of all what we see around us today in this beautiful and God’s fully blessed world either in the name of weapons of mass destruction or war on terror.

What Pakistan needs to do is to quit collaborating with both India and the United States, set up a Socialist government, make peace with the Taliban and set up anti-poverty programs. China did that some 60 years ago with very good results as seen today in that country.
