I am not saying which culture is right or wrong, all cultures have their own characteristics, which could be acceptable for the people and not, but what is Taliban and some those who affiliated with Taliban are doing the brutal things against women in Afghanistan and Pakistan, they think that the women just should sit in the home and do the house chores, women can be a doctor, engineer, teacher etc, though the god is saying, learning education is for both male and female it means if the male can be a doctor, engineer working outside of the house then why women should do that,
One thing more every country has its own regulations I respect all, and fortunately in Afghanistan the women is following the regulations that given by the law to them, but most of time have seen that in tribal areas and where the Taliban have there save heavens the women have lived under the violence and brutality of Taliban. You know better the killing, force marriage, under age marriage with old man, cutting of noses and ears, burning of women and etc by the Taliban and their affiliated people. Otherwise Islam order to equity among women and men!

The shelter which is running by the national organization and some international organization is completely running to the rue and regulation of the country accordingly, and fortunately better. But there is some element along with Karzai just they want that how to occupy the resources which have been using for women to solve their problems. Therefore, the Karzai and his lobbies launching the propaganda to take this shelters under the control of the government.

We Afghans all knows that what and in which part the government have done well since this ten years that all the international forces are helping us, most the money is gone to the individual, which spent by the government and we do not have any achievement that the government did that.

Just we have the big achievement from the Karzai (King of corruption) government one which is corruptions and the other big achievement which is the production of drug, all the areas which the brothers of Karzai are living there, are the red area of drugs smuggling, killing and suicide bombing then how we can believe on this type of person which is running the country that he can run the shelter through his affiliated and spoiled partialities.

I think they want through shelters teach the women, how to do suicide bombing and drugs business and etc.

The main point is being avoided, the point of the article is ,....the government wanting to take control of the shelter.....not Islam , not war .....but women who are being abused , and needing somewhere safe to go , there are women's shelters in the US , the point of the article is ....women beaten by husbands , go to shelter, government wanting control of shelter, .....what would the outcome be??

I have to Say something to other people here, The crimes of Taliban committed against their people are not being disregarded! If you want to make a decision because of these actions then go look in Malt and Asian provinces that they are throwing pregnant women off cliffs to keep the tribe leaders wife's untouched. Now should I judge an entire country because of this and call Buddhism an evil religion??

So stop the muslim non-scene and if you really want to know this religon, you should read and get off news sites on the internet and Tv's that is controlled by Mass media to help brain wash you by a picture and direct you to where they want.

If islam wanted to truly win friends and convert people they would probably succeed if they teated ALL people with equality and kindness but they simply don't do that or even see the need. Using general anti Americanism as an excuse to mutilate and destroy women (a one on one act) is a bizarre mindset to say the least.

They should try to SET the standard rather than give cheap excuses for sloppy, cruel, callous behavior that is so subhuman as to be another form of obscenity. NO SYMPATHY. If this is the face islam wants to show the world they should not be surprised at the indifference (at best) it receives.

      NO SYMPATHY.

Women rights are stated in the islamic tradition and Mohammed was the first to give rights to the women. So if someone
hurt a woman must be ppunished. Just the americans are not punished when they kill women with missiles, as they ,hypocrites, claim it to be an mistake !!

Salerno, you are obviously a Man who thinks it's OK to stone women to death, beat them and marry off girls as young as 10 to old men and this is called your custom. Women in these Muslim countries should protest the dictators they have in their own homes. Maybe if these women had a voice there children wouldn't be brainwashed into blowing themselves up for no good reason. No one else should waste their time responding to you since you are obviously not on the side of HUMAN RIGHTS, Women are humans too by the way. I'm sure you have a mother don't you...

American's didn't start the war in Afghanistan by the way. Did you forget about 9/11? So if we did decide to bomb the villages of those responsible then it would be justified. But we didn't. Our military is facing tough decisions to hold fire when your cowardly men strap women and children with bombs. If they are so certain they will go to paradise for killing innocent people then why don't they do it? I wish we could bring all of your women to the United States and leave the men in that godforsaken land to die off.

Actually, this video isn’t about the influence of western culture on eastern women. It’s about women abuse and domestic violence in Afghanistan. The number of suffered women is terribly high. Government must do everything they can to stop this violence, but instead government is planning to take over women’s shelters. Salerno, no one think that Afghan women need to look at American women as a model. The question is why in Eastern countries the domestic violence rate is so high. May be it’s because of misunderstanding of Quran? In Quran there is no word that women should be so awfully oppressed and abused. It seems to me that men in Afghanistan, actually in all Middle East countries forget that women are humans too and that they also have feelings. Real man will never raise a hand against woman (it doesn’t depend on religion, culture, nationality and etc.).

II was only able to read two of these postings, before I couldn't read anymore. These women need a voice – ours. Violence against women, marrying young girls before they are ready, treating them like a doormat, a place where women have no rights, is unnacceptable. We need to think of them before ourselves. Won't you write to Amnesty International to help these women gain a voice to end the violence. That young woman who's nose and ears were cut off because she ran away from a man and his family who was abusing her, was violated in the worst sort of terms one can't even begin to imagine. The Taliban cut her face so she would not be attractive to another man. This is cruel and unusual punishment for a crime of trying to save herself. Please, write Amnesty International, give these women a voice heard across the world.

Tracy – In Afghanistan Mullah Omar executed men raping women before the war. Afghanistan is out of control with the American killing women and children on a regular basis. Violence must be addressed individually as individual are responsible.
Americans are most effective than Taliban in killing the women. Why did in Iraq so many women fight against americans ?
In Afgjhanistan the women have some privileges, as they are not used as suicide bombers like the males to protect them from the war.
Nevertheless the Americans are killing the women because they are cowards.

Why are you arguing about the crime? The point isn't whether or not Americans are ushering in their ideology, or if Afgans theirs, but rather the point should be individual rights- which should be universal. It seems like these people don't have a choice. These women are abused because they don't/didn't conform. Those doing the abuse somehow feel they have the right to end a life or cause physical and sometimes permanent harm. Why not just separate yourself from that person without the violence?

Qoran told us to do only good things, but those people who beat their wifes not in a right way as well.
It is wrong to think that muslim woman right, because they wear hidjab and pray 5 times. People might be good or bad, it doesn't depend on their nationality or culture, religious.

Their culture of blaming the victim (women) is the problem and now these women are rightfully afraid that their "Gov't" is going to reinforce the barbaric cultural practices of the monsters that abused them in the first place. BTW, you should assume where I or any other person who comments on these forums are from. You know nothing about me.

That's not the first woman I've seen without a nose. You're saying there's one Individual running around lopping off women's noses? Our ideology is just fine.

David – may be more then an individual. Violence against the women is present even in Europe or in US I remember a recent case of an american pilot beating his wife. He was not punished, but simply put out of the military with the diagnosis of PSTSD. I am not so prud of our culture.

Violence is very bad action especially against the women, women are the half of our country’s structure and we need the women to work with us, to have representatives in the government and to contribute to the development of the country, women have strong capability of managing the affairs, naturally, according our country’s situation its right that we have not given chances to the women that should be given to them, but this all is the government’s responsibility to give equal chances with any discrimination of gender and race and nationality, but unfortunately our government is very weak and this weakness has created by the misleading of the country toward nonsense issues than to concentrate for the welfare of the people, especially women, but I am optimistic, after Karzai’s function we would have good government that can be on equity bases in all aspects.
