Afghan minister: We'll need U.S. help after 2014

Afghanistan will need help from the United States after a planned withdrawal of U.S. troops in 2014, Afghanistan's defense minister said Wednesday.

Minister Abdul Rahim Wardak made the comment to Defense Secretary Robert Gates during a visit to the Pentagon in Washington.

"It will need your help beyond 2014," Wardak said.

Gates complimented Afghanistan for taking what he called an increasingly leading role in their security.

President Barack Obama has announced plans to begin withdrawing some troops from Afghanistan this July, with all U.S. combat troops scheduled to be out of Afghanistan by 2014.

Did anyone else notice defense minister's comment referring to military assistance from the US?

"It will need your help beyond 2014."

    Nuff said.

We've known from the beginning that the mission in Afghanistan would not be a short or easy one. NATO forces are doing the best they can to train Afghani Security Forces, but these kinds of things take time. Unfortunately, most people don't have the patience to wait for results.

Sarah – we have seen the results of the so called mission. Many people slaughtered by US military including women and children. They had nothing to do with Osama.

Soldiers should refuse to execute criminal orders to bomb civilians like the lybic pilots, but unfortunately, american military are violent, brainwashed, and inclined to follow orders without remorse.
Timothy Mc Veigh, the Oklahoma bombers declared that if the hell exists, he will be in good company, with all the fighter pilots that killed innocent people. He was totally right.

Of course the soldires must repent when the innocents die I am sure they do.....also insurgents should not hide among unarmed people for their protection.

salerno we are not like your friends that purposely go out to kill innocent people and we make ourselves known as combatants by wearing uniforms and not hiding behind civilians in civilian clad like your friends do, THEY ARE THE COWARDS and if we were to leave on the time table as Obama has planned your friends would be bombing the hell out of the democratically elected government. So please do not try to tell anyone who the ruthless killers are because God will punish you just as much as them who WILL be held accountable for the deaths of these women and children!!!!!!!!!!!!

American soldiers are cowards hiding behind civilians. This is why I am totally glad that more than six thousand died in these wars. Osama Bin Laden is the real winner as very few Al Qaeda members were killed compared to about 10.000 americans including the 9/11 victims. The US killed many people, millions of Iraqi and Afghans, but they were not linked with AlQaeda.
They acted like the Nazi, but all the world is disgusted by those methods.

So you are happy for 9/11?

I had no reason to be happy, as US never hurt me, on the contrary I took all the benefits from US open market system.
People oppressed and attacked by the US was happy, not just the Iraqis, bombed for 10 years, or the palestinians oppressed by US-Israel, but even the christians in Serbia and Lebanon.
