This is a very interesting interview. I was surprised that Rumsfeld speculated how long we would be in the war.

David. You are correct. Troops have to obey the commanders . Without military we could have been faced more worst things. They risked their lives obeying what they signed and they did it for a fair reason. We must respect our troops. May God protect them and help them to return home safely!! in the name of Jesus Christ Amen.

Salerno I want you to walk up to any American soldier and say this to there face. i hate people like you. you have come into this discussion spewing nothing but liberal hippie bulls/&t. I can't believe you have the audacity to even call yourself an American. regardless of what your feelings are on the war you still need to support our troops. How can you even look yourself in the mirror knowing that as you have said "6,000 troops have lost there lives and pension benefits" fighting for freedoms that you take for granted. If I were you i would look at myself and really ask myself "does an American citizen really not support there men and women at arms". I am ashamed to have even responded to your ridiculous rants and raves but someone had to make sure you understand regardless of all of our political or philosophical views we need to stand behind our troops. They don't have a choice they follow the orders put in place by there commander in chief. Please keep your comments limited to things that are relevant to the discussion and stop trying push your liberalist agenda into a debate not about politics but about one mans comment about President Obama.

David – I strongly disagree about the duty of supporting our troops. Even the Nazi thought to do this, but it was proved wrong.
I support troops when defending american borders or ships from piracy, not when attacking other countries killing civilians.
They voluntarily signed up, and can reject the wrong ideology of the war. Mohammed Ali had the courage to desert the draft and did not go to Vietnam war. He heroically paid a price. Now the fact that many women are bypassing good people like us is a bad thing for the human kind, as it is a strong help for the war mongers.
Terrorism is an internal security problem, not a military one.

I could make thousand of exemplums about the wrong translation of the Bible, like the word "Rakiwa" translated with "firmamentum" by S. Girolamus and with "stereoma" by the Ellenistic, but it would be too long. Do you know the iold name of Ceylon was Serandip (Sinhal dwip in sanscrit) ? Do you know that the Samaritan translated the Ararat mountin of the Bible with Serandib ? Sera means wheel in samaritan language and dib means light.

Sacred books cannot be read like a novel. They contain special wisdom. Unfortunately the Bible is the only sacred book not written in the original languages spoken by the prophet (aramaic). It was manipulated and adapted to the people living inside the roman empire when the Emperor Constantin used the religion as a tool for power to strenghtening his weakening empire.
This is why the New Testament was written in greek, a more broadly used language. All the other sacred books, the Veda, the old Testament, the Quran have not this kind of problem, as they were written in the original language and used by the same people that granted their originality. I am not saying that the basic message is completely lost, but something was lost...

Iranian protesters back Gaza and burn Obama picture
    Tue, Jan 13 2009
TEHRAN (Reuters) – Dozens of Iranians burnt posters of U.S. President-elect Barack Obama in Tehran on Tuesday and waved Palestinian flags in support of Gaza, according to a witness and photographs.
Iranian demonstrators have often burnt effigies or pictures of U.S. presidents in protests. This appeared to be the first time Obama's picture had been defaced so publicly, a week before his inauguration as president.
Iran has condemned the West, and the United States in particular, for not doing more to stop Israel's attacks on Gaza. The 18-day-old offensive, which Israel says is to stop rockets being fired at it, has killed more than 900 Palestinians.
"Where are the freedom seekers?" read one poster held up by a demonstrator at Tuesday's protest. It had the word "Gaza" emblazoned on it and an image of a weeping Palestinian.
The demonstrators, waving Palestinian flags, some chanting "Death to Obama," had gathered outside the Swiss embassy which handles U.S. interests because Tehran and Washington have not had diplomatic ties for nearly three decades.
Pictures obtained by Reuters showed the president-elect's image laid on the road for cars to drive over it, and other images showed demonstrators burning the Obama poster.
In other recent protests against Israel's Gaza offensive, demonstrators have climbed into a British diplomatic compound and gathered outside the missions of Jordan and Egypt, which have peace treaties with Israel, to condemn what they see as the inadequate international response.

I guess Obama isn't so popular with his people after all Candy. It the presidency of the United States not the people's choice awards of the world. Maybe the next presidential election we can open the voting to the rest of the world. It was Plato who said those who are too smart to engage in politics are punished by being governed by those who are dumber. That can also be said about journalism now. The World Wrestling Federation had to changes its name to WWE to recognize it was not a real sport, but entertainment. CNN should change its name to CNE

I my self had a hard time changing. Because in Buddhism what they believe is you play and pay back ..that is karma. Yet Buddha too has said do not take revenge as there is no end of it. Yet Karma repeats and Buddha has said about reincarnation. Human can be born in any form (even like animal)
I think karma is the punishment from God. And we go either Heaven or hell .

Right, Dindy. Karma is another way to explain the punishment for evil actions Atma is the spiritual essence that can take different forms, human and not. This is the principle of actions and reactions valid even in the material world as it inspired

The true christians cannot support or go to war killing innicent people, as this is contrarian to Jesus teaching. The Christian militia, the tempòars, during the crusade time, fought with simple arms, without targeting civilians, as they protected the pilgrins from criminals, and muslims chavalry orders allowed them to do it. Sometime there were some clashes, as individuals can be wrong, but it was not a matter of religion. Both sides commited bad actions, even more against their respective people, than against each other.

The false doctor spocken by the Gospels is Lutero. In S.John revelation 10.10 it is mentioned an angel giving a new little book, the Quran. So you are wrong. The false Christ is somone pretending to be Christ and inverting his teaching from peace to war and violence as YOU FALSE CHRISTIANS ARE DOING RIGHT NOW.

The kings of the earth will be united killing the believers. This is the prophecy. You can see now that the US-Nato is responsible for the violence as they have the powere and the weapon to oppress and kill the people. They created terrorism, they created suicide bombers. They will end up destroying themselves. US power is shrinking, they are no longer able to control the world. The dollar is loosing his currency reserve status and the US economy will suffer. The US decline has begun.

Dindy and Dan – When I say you are stupid, it is not an insult, but a technical term to explain your failure to understand.
The false prophets are addressed inside Islam too. Jesus never told to be the Last one, and in the S.John revelation 10.10 is indicated a new prophecy. Jesus did not allow christians to fight or support war. Even inside Islam war is for self-defense only.
Additionally I DON?T CARE THE ECONOMICS OF WAR AS I HAVE NO PROBLEMS. I CARE THE INNOCENT LIVES .

You just hate freedom and believe that all people who sin should be punished severely to show society that to sin is to die or punished most severely so that no one will sin. Well when you punish the sinner in this way you are going against the teachings of Jesus and make yourselves worse sinners than those you punish, because all mankind sins and if they are asking for forgiveness we should also be merciful as God would be towards them and not use then as an example or to terrorize the population!

I believe that this war is going to take a long time because its necesarry for both parts, the only thing the US has to be careful is not to bring Pakistan in, one of these days the US is going to bomb something in Pakistan and they are going to be mad and retaliate, that day you can be sure the US will have to worry.

As for this happening in Christ Church it has nothing to do with my prayer because not 6 months earlier there was also an earthquake there, so there must be some plate shifting in the area, but as for the terrorists their time WILL come if they do not repent and give up their conquest on freedom and democracy and the Christian way of life!

RUMMY was right in saying that Obama failed to honor his election campaign commitment, based on Bush bashing for his Afghan and Iraqi adventures, and today Obama 's promise to close Guantanamo or call back troops. His so bold emphasis of Obama being too apologetic in dealing with the world showed his arrogance and shamelessness. He confessed of the strong determination and dedication of Taliban to their cause, main reason behind US failure Afghanistan but could not dare to confess of his personal blunder when he in person rejected Karzai's secrete deal with Mullah Umar when he peacefully surrendered Kandahar in exchange for security in future set-up. Very next day RUMMY snubbed Karzai by saying that he cannot see Mullah Umar wondering free in Afghanistan before his eyes. Mullah Umar while leaving Kandahar on a motorbike had told his friends that I am leaving to fight and you are free to join me or not. Rummy is right that Taliban are very few however did not tell that why these few are like a stuck bone in US throat for which only RUMMY is accountable. RUMMY knew that Osama or his 400/500 Alqaida activists would not have survived for moths if had been isolated from Taliban therefore his rejection of Karzai- Umar deal was intentional to get some time to build strong military bases to prolong occupation of Afghanistan. If he had some moral courage he would have apologized for his this blunder for which whole Americans are paying today with blood and money. Similarly Bush would never have won for second term if Osama at 11th hour had not released his video of warning America with another deadly attack. This is indeed very evil game wherein main losers are public in USA, Pakistan and Afghanistan while main beneficiaries are RUMMY, BUSH, CHENNY, MIC and Corporatocracy.

Ramsfeld was the supporter of Abu-Grahib tortures that made America look very bad around the world. He was wrong so many times, so I don't understand why CNN reporters are still interviewing him.
It is not true what he told, as AlQaeda did not attack other countries before they were involved in Iraq or Afghanistan war.
It is also unthinkable the Taliban are so dangerous as the 9/11 attackers came from S.Arabia and Egypt. Additionally the attack was planned in Germany.
US did not protect his citizens and put them in danger for their middle east policy. The lack of new attacks happened because the internal security improoved.

Abu Ghahib was not torture but some unauthorized guards humiliating the prisoners. They were not after any information just playing some sick jokes which they were punished for including the commanding officer. Rumsfeld had nothing to do with it! And as for the countries where the 9/11 attackers came from has no significance as to where we attacked the perpetrators of this horrific crime as does where it was planned. It remains that al Qaeda was responsible and bin Laden and al Zawahjiri are the one and two main men in charge and have produced a video claiming responsibility for it and will be held accountable. Also as for the Taliban harboring this terrorist group they also are an accomplice in the crime and are being held accountable!

Dan – you are the usual liar as everybody could see the video with the tortures. Several prisoners died or were executed. Many of them were even not AlQaeda members. Rumsfeld corrected publically a colomnell asking to stop the tortures, so he was the criminal. Taliban are divided in many tribes and most of them were even ignoring about Osama.

There was no torture dummy, it was just humiliation and no one was charged or dismissed because of torturing prisoners there. So your criticism of news reporting is a lie, IDIOT!

abu grahib was the best thing to ever happen. if only the new reports never got out. granted some people were innocently tortured, thats just collateral damage. just like for the terrorists killing civilians are collateral damage. if i had it my way we wouldnt have tortured them. we would have just done exactly what they do to us. strap a bomb on them walk away and watch the fireworks. its what they want neways

Rumsfeld has no shame. He was wrong in not sending enough troops to Afghanistan, wrong again in Iraq, and he's too arrogant to admit his mistakes. While his boss from Vietnam Robrt McNamara had the grace and wisdom to reconsider his actions, Rummy will never admit the 4,500 / 1,500 Iraq-Afghanistan KIA's are his fault. Hillbilly armor, anyone??

Mr. Lubin, you are wrong, period.

I would question whether or not you have been to either country. If not, you know less than nothing. The only thing standing between you and having your head cut off are conservative Christian American soldiers. You don't get it now and you never will. You should thanks whatever you pray to that you have people light-years better than yourself to protect your cowardly behind.

You hit the nail on the head. A good SECDEF would adjust tactics and carefully consider advice from experts and senior military officers. But Rumsfeld is ME, ME, ME....I'M IN CHARGE....Instead of admitting that the early on Iraq strategy wasn't working, he continued to allow troops to die. He's a 5 year old child. And if you're a General or Admiral and you tell Donald Rumsfeld he is wrong, that there is a better way, he'll force you to resign and/or continue his vendetta. Again, a spoiled vindictive 5 year old brat!
