Petraeus warns Karzai on Afghan exit timing

In what may be one of the most significant breaches between Afghan President Hamid Karzai and the Obama administration, Gen. David Petraeus personally warned Afghan officials over the weekend the U.S.-Afghan partnership could be "untenable" if Karzai wants U.S. troops out of Afghanistan prematurely.

A senior coalition military official confirmed details of what Petraeus said, but asked not to be identified so he could speak more candidly.

Petraeus made the statements Sunday in a meeting with Ashraf Ghani, the Afghan official in charge of planning the efforts to handle transition from coalition to Afghan control. A planned Sunday meeting with Karzai was rescheduled, but officials insisted it was not canceled due to the tensions.

Gen David’s warning to Karzai, speak of the future of USA in Afghanistan. There is no doubt that in prevailing war between Alqaida-Taliban and USA, vast majority of Afghans are neutral and badly hate wars in their homeland on any name, even Islam or terrorism. Karzai, by speaking of containing wars, basically representing, the feelings of this silent majority, which has suffered a lot, during last three decades, in purely US wars in this region. So DAN IN and DINDY you both please try to understand the basic reason and main forces behind the killing of innocent human beings in this part of the world. Blindly supporting USA on her wrong steps is not in fact a friendship with USA but clear enmity therefore if General David prefers interests of MIC instead of America and adds to wars instead of ending it by ignoring the advice of their own appointed President of Afghanistan, he should not be supported as last nine years wars has not only devastated this region but whole world, specially USA has been faced with multiple risks. So in the interests of USA, this universe, and entire humanity, MIC should forthwith be closed and General David be confined to their barracks. USA should look better in ruling the world with logic and reason then guns and bombs. I hope DINDY and DAN IN will let me know which way they will like to see the USA.

Kazai should invite tribal leaders too for the discussion as they too are their citizens and help US to defeat Al-qaeda and in return US can continue helping Afghanistan to build Agriculture and in all the other projects for their welfare . it is better if the Taliban leaders can contribute for their country to get developed .They must work hand in hand with the Government like the Afghan Army. Government of Karzai must invite them again to go for the progress of their country. It is said before and now even the reason USA came to Afghanistan is to huntAll-qaeda by the borders of Afghanistan..But not to fight with Afghan civilians.yet for their welfare in developing better business than opium. Taliban must understand that too. It is wise to be united with US and go ahead to develop the country rather than breaking up the talks and become enemies. Help each other to get the worst enemy Bin who is responsible for more than 10000 deaths in time to time. 360 God has said the punishment to the Murderer is death.

Actually we need to get out of there asap since we have no more business there than the Russians did. After all,Afghanistan belongs to the Afghans and nobody else! First we need to get the Karzai regime and the Taliban together.

So we just pick up and leave? Every Soldier, Sailor, Airmen, and Marine that has laid his/her life down on the alter of freedom will have died in vane. We cannot simply leave and allow Afghanistan to serve as a safe haven for terrorists and extremists. The men and women who have died fighting extremists will have then done so for nothing. Just leaving cannot even be allowed.

Actually Sanity, this obnoxious war has nothing to do with our civil rights nor with national security. It's purpose is to enrich the already wealthy war profiteers and to promote the careers of right-wing politicians no matter what these politicians say to the contrary!

You've got onesmallmind to go with that onesmallvoice! No one is profiting from this war especially the defense contractors who are building our war machine to combat these Islamic extremists who believe that someday they will control the world and everyone will live under their strict sharia law and they will do whatever it takes to achieve this goal! As you can see a place of worship or a bus full of women and children will not stand in the way of their murderous campaign!

Sorry Onesmallvoice,I didn't post the above. I agree with you about this obscene war but it's helping the politicians in Washington and that's all they care about.
