UK could start pulling troops next year, PM says

British troop numbers in Afghanistan could start falling as soon as next year, British Prime Minister David Cameron said Wednesday.

"But it should be based on the conditions on the ground," Cameron said in response to a BBC reporter.

"I don't want to raise expectations about that, because that transition should be based on how well the security situation is progressing," he said.

The United Kingdom has the second-largest contingent of international forces in Afghanistan fighting the Taliban, after the United States.

President Obama has said he would like to see U.S. troop levels start to fall starting in July 2011 if the country is secure enough.

Cameron, who is visiting the United States, was asked if the British public could also expect to see British troop levels come down from the current level of about 9,500.

The prime minister said yes, but that the decision would be based on conditions on the ground.

And he reiterated that he wanted British combat troops out in five years.

"We're not going to be there, you know, in five years' time, in 2015, with combat troops or large numbers," he said.

We will never hae PEACE in this World as long as People put Their religion before the better of Their People and other People of the world!!! We have to learn to respect everyone that is different from us... We also have to make sure that all People have the right to better themselves as long as they are willing to do so!!! When the few run the Countries and the Majority are paying for it will never get better... How can you expect a Country like the United States and England expect to compete with a third world country that treats Their People like slaves??? Until al the People in the World have a chance to work and survive off their work!!! We will have the problems we have today... We have to learn to respect each other before we can live with each other!!!

Of course UK is pulling out of this corrupt War in Afghanistan. The UK barely has two nickels to rub together after the Bush jr. war on the worlds economy. Although the UK doesn't have a large number of it's soldiers in Afghanistan, the UK people can no longer afford the enormous drain on the UK economy, go figure! I hope America's taxpayers wake up to the same conclusion.

India's pre-Arab pre-Muhammad Hindu Islam is the Real Islam and Osama should embrace it if he wants to be a real Muslim.India's Hindu Islam became a victim of medieval Arab/Muslim Imperialism.Invaders tried their best to destroy the great ancient traditons of Hindu Islam, but failed inspite of military victories and Muslim rule over India for almost a thousand years. No nation in world could boast such a great survival as India did.Politically and militarily down, but culturally and religiously alive, challenging the political/military dominance of the worst Muslim dictators like Aurangzeb. This became possible because of the internal strength of India's (ie whole non-Arab Asia's)Hindu Islam.Hindu Islam is a very potent force. It loves all, hates nobody. It is at total ease with the Western Civilisation and and its values.Hindu Islam's language is the great classical language of the East-SANSKRIT.We can call it Sanskrit Islam also. The problem with Pakistan is its too much identification with Arab Islam. The whole AfPak is the land of Hindu Islam.Pakistan needs a return to the great indigenous tradition of its own local Hindu Islam. But since beginning, they followed a wrong course, thanks to rabbid anti-Indianism which has gripped them like disease. The Armed Forces of Pakistan supplied this idea to form a 7th Century Islamic Caliphate in the Hindukush mountains under Mulla Umer and Sheikh Osama with the dangerous plan of world jihad. The main culprit is the Pakistani Army/ISI brass.Otherwise, there was never any such thing in the Hindukush. The Pashtun tribes never thought of attacking Kashmir or Kabul, but only when tutored and instigated by the Pakistanis. This is the problem.Pakistan practises medieval anti-Indian Arab/Muslim Imperialism as a creed and philosophy.Yesterday, it was Kashmir, today, it is Kabul. They don't have any other agenda.

The deployments by the UK are because of the NATO treaty which states, and I'm paraphrasing, that an attack against one is an attack against all. The NATO action was authorized by the U.N. Many people try to lay the blame for terrorism on the United States but the instigators of terror are the islamic extremists. The first country to fall to them was Iran. Now we have more extremists in other countries following their own brand of extremist Islam. They have highjacked their religion and then tapped the weak minded, politically weak people of those countries to carry out their bidding. Osama bin Laden is a perfect example of this. If he were truly dedicated to his principles he would have strapped a bomb to himself. He also tries to motivate people using the "Crusades" as fuel. Funny since the Crusades ended several hundred years ago. We live in an age when all religions can coexist peacefully. The people have to make their wishes known. Yes, we have weak minded individuals in the States too that follow that garbage. Like the Westboro Baptist Church, the neo-Nazis, the KKK and other people like that that cause problems. Is it better to ignore them? Maybe. We are in Afghanistan for a reason. The Taliban allowed bin Laden to plot and plan 9-11 and they were removed. Iraq was a different story. I first believed in that mission but realize we were duped. Hell, I voted for Bush and was disappointed. If the U.S. hadn't done anything this conversation would be about the lack of action of the U.S. instead of the mistakes people think the U.S. made because it's easy to point the blame at the one nation that tries to make the world a better place.

Why UK is there in the first place? The defense minister of UK already said that the security threat is risen because of UK involvement of War. It did not exist before the UK deployment of the forces. (read BBC for this)

I wrote this to know other peoples thoughts on it.

I already know that the resources of Iraq and Afghanistan will go to respective countries of armed forces. I see it as modern colonization, just a different name to it (i.e. terrorism).

P.S. For some reasons, majority of Americans think that they are in Iraq (not that much in Afghanistan) to fight terrorism... You have to live in those countries to know true ideology (media won't tell you that).

Threat is not from Afganistan;the threat is from Pakistan which is the epi-centre of international terrorism.Pakistan is based on the obsolete ideology of medieval anti-Indian Arab/Muslim Imperialism. The word Hindu is born out of this imperialism.Only Hindu has faced and fought against this evil for last 1400 yeara, while others surrendered.Hindu word denotes RESISTANCE.You won't find such beautiful word anywhere else.Hindu India fell politically and militarily, bur even then lived and survived, because of this great word. The great tradition of religion and culture of India could not be wiped out by Muslim invaders and rulers. But Iran and AfPak area got heavily Islamised.Whole AfPak area is OLD INDIA.To curb Arab terrorism in this area,Afpak will have to return to the Hindu traditions of the pre-Islam times.Hindu Islam ie non-Arab Islam is the key to solve the problem.Pakistan has gone too much in the wrong direction. It is basically a Hindu nation.Whole Afpak is Hindu World.Pakistan will have to change and abandon its policy of supporting and encouraging the Osama Line.Otherwise, there would be great problem for all nations.Pakistan is the problem, not Afganistan.

Since Bin Laden is dead and there is no way we can ever have a definitive victory in Iraq or Afghanistan, let's get the hell out of those countries now and use the troops to protect our own borders and the money to create jobs, maintain public services and improve education. These so-called wars on terror only fuel the fire for Jihadists and are a total waste of money and young lives.

Unfortunately, much of that money that you'd save from pulling out the troops would go right into unemployment benefits. Given the lackluster economy and high unemployment numbers we have currently in the U.S., do you really think that there's room to absorb 200,000 more people? And that's just for the soldiers on the ground, not the millions of workers in the aerospace, energy, supply sectors, etc., that support the military. Whether you like it or not, the U.S. military is doing a service to this country in more ways than one - including keeping people working.
