American and NATO troops give there blood, sweat, tears and the American taxpayers pickup the tab. So that China can purchase immense mineral leases in Afghanistan for mere pennys? I seriously doubt anyone outside of the Karzai Clan is receiving any of the mineral leasing money. It certainly appears the Karzai Clan of major Opium-Heroin exporters is not helping all of the Afghanistan people in any fundamental fashion. The royalty's generated from the proposed trans-Afghanistan pipeline would be immense and if shared with all the Afghanistan people would at least equal the royalty's received by all residents in Alaska, USA from the trans-Alaskian pipeline. Isn't the Karzai Clan blocking the trans-Afghanistan pipeline from being built to supply Natural Gas to New Delhi, India? How does that benefit the Afghanistan people?

Let me put the last one word in for all of Pakistan and Afganistan's problem's. These both nations lack Education which helps in the thought process which in turn helps the Human being think properly. What is happening at the moment is Some dim wit with his agenda and a beard to gain power puts forward his version of Islam and no one due to lack of knowledge asks him where is it written. They just follow like rates in that poem. So if all this has to change the Educated class has to rise up and take on the uneducated but with the sole agenda to turn these 2 Rudderless nations to some sort of normality.
The hate of the other is what is eating away these nations.Core of Islam Tolerence is missing that needs to come back or All is Lost and this will keep going on till the Almighty's pataince run's out and then we all know what happens.

Pakistan's counter insurgency strategy is simple. Take Billions of American taxpayer dollars from their partners in the CIA and give that money to it's Taliban fighters preventing the trans-Afghanistan pipeline from crossing Afghanistan to New Delhi, India. The Taliban commanders that get out of line with the Pakistani ISI are taken out and listed as evidence of the lack of corruption.

CNN should not call this Pakistan's counter insurgency strategy but it is the strategy of Pakistani Army.Whether opening schools, mining coal is job of civilians or of Army is what made the problem in the first place.

I rather doubt any news allowed to enter the American news media turn-table out of Pakistan is accurate, honest, truthful nor even void of utter propaganda for America to consume.

Pakistan is utterly corrupt, their security agency ISI is literally in bed with America's CIA and for some reason India's Pashtun's are in the cross-hairs. India needs the trans-Afghanistan pipeline (TAP) and Pakistan the bitter enemy of India pours its Taliban fighters into Afghanistan to prevent that. All other sub-plots or issues are not the main issue in the ongoing proxy war between Pakistan and India, paid for by the American taxpayers.

Pakistan's counter insurgency strategy is Pakistan centric and selective ....... !

Pakistan is playing a game of nerve with the Americans........ and trying to extract as much as it can in terms of economic and strategic concessions, the Americans are their golden egg laying goose and they do not want to let it go too soon......... but the problem is the Pakistanis have become too greedy as their habit has been spoiled over the decades............they have lost sense of how much is enough.......... it will be interesting to see how long the Americans would be able to have their patience with their long time accomplice gone rogue............ !!

I see you have done good analysis. Also see how many times Pakistan has been betrayed by US, I think Pakistan is learned the lesson well over decades. It was the freindship with US that has cost them a lot and now they are going to recover eveything they have lost over the decades.

This a step in the right direction, Pakistan has been a trusted ally of the US for over 60 years and has bled and died alongside US troops for decades. It shames me to think that the US has not treated this ally well, we give them bare minimum aid and dont give them credit for the remarkable work they have done. Pakistan has lost more troops than all the American, International ISAF, Afghan troops combined, the US has not addressed Pakistan's concern over indian use and funding of the Taliban and terrorist acts in Pakistan, the toll and civilian casualties in Pakistan as well as the major impact supplying US forces in Afghanistan has had on Pakistan's economy and infrastructure. All for the small sum of 1.5 billion in aid. Pakistan needs to be thanked, better supported and the US media should portray the country in a better light, which currently, it is not dong. Failure to do so, Im afraid we might lost this this trusted ally of Pakistan, and if public opinion is an indicator, most western, educated Pakistani's already dont trust the US after the many times we have ditched them in the past, I dont blame them, if I were them, I wouldnt trust the US either.

Every single American soldier dies in Afghanistan is because Pakistan is helping and reinforcing the terrorists in Pakistan and send them toAfghanistan. Its obvious and any blind guy would realize it. Pakistan wants to have influence in Afghanistan because of our long lasting friendship with India, the prior enemy of Pakistan. They have to realize one thing that Afghanistan is the land, in which the slave of the slave of our ancestors can not have any influence.
