Troop killed in Afghanistan, adding to spate of deaths

A member of the NATO-led force in Afghanistan was killed Tuesday, a day after six other members were killed in separate incidents, the military said.

These deaths come after a grim milestone in the war, the International Security Assistance Force said. June was the deadliest month for coalition troops in Afghanistan since the war began in 2001. ISAF did not release details about the death Tuesday.

Home and Away: Iraq and Afghanistan War Casualties

All the deaths Monday were the result of roadside blasts, NATO's International Security Assistance Force told CNN.

The casualties comprised of:

- Three deaths in southern Afghanistan.

- Two in western Afghanistan.

- One in the eastern part of the country.

Meanwhile, joint Afghan-international security forces conducted operations in Ghazni, Helmand and Logar provinces on Monday night, detaining a Taliban commander and several suspected insurgents, ISAF said.

The Vietnam war was a wrong war – we helped reinstate the French colonialism & later justified with anti-communism propaganda; the '03 Iraq invasion was wrong because Iraq is an easier punching bag – the WMDs-to-democracy justification doesn't cut it.

Obama is spot on in defining the Afghanistan War as a War of Necessity. You [the Taliban] harbor Osama bin; we'll go after you. As Commander in Chief, Obama could have easily pulled out of both Afghanistan & Iraq and blame Bush/Cheney. Wars are never popular. If the Somali pirate situation is an indication, Obama is smart, strategic, and patriotic!

Spare me of the right/left/conservative/lib crap. Let's support Obama, Petraeus, as well as our/allies troops!

    Let's not forget 9/11!

Praying doesn't help get rid of the mafia.

What we need in Afghan is more drones & high-tech gears. We'll give them a bloody nose - expensive face job but worth every penny! Maim thugs & educate civilians. There is no easy shortcut.

    Just watch!

And No, Osama bin is not dead, yet! Otherwise, the Taliban would have displayed his head to get the $25M(?) bounty, see us leave Afghan, and reestablish their power grip!

It seems to me that the only people who are spewing mindless crap on the internet are either ignorant Tea Partiers or right-wing fanatics trying to glorify this obscene war and like Bubba said, there is no glory in this or any other war.

WHO is a tea-partier? I have not seen one tea partier on here, and even if there was... so what? Are they any different than any other political group/movement that has come about in recent years? I'll take a tea-partier out for lunch before I take some anti-American bimbo any day.

Military Industrial Complex? What the hell are you all talking about? "nonsense and stupid war", "young men will die needlessly "? My men and I go out on patrol everyday trying to make the lives of the Afghans better, make it safe for their kids to go to school, help the government do better for its people, and not by doing it our way, but by doing their way, just a little bit better. I have lost friends here, we have suffered losses, and we Soldier on, and people like Jerry and Tom Posey will tell you they died for nothing, well I disagree. I have not seen the MIC, I have seen men and women who sacrifice everyday to keep terrorist from killing people like you and the ones you love. Why would you blame right wing politicians when its the Insurgent who places the IEDs that kill Soldier and civilian alike? War is what it is, and as one in the middle of it, I will tell you that war sucks, but every Soldier is a volunteer, and we all signed up or reenlisted in a time of war. We do what we do because its the right thing to do, because our buddies to the left and to the right need us to do it. You have a right to your views and opinion, and I promise you I will always stand up against the enemies of the Nation so you will always have that right.

George,25 years ago the Russians had the very same idea that you do today. They, too, wanted to improve the lives of Afghans and don't by into all crap the right-wing news media used to spew at them. After all, they were motivated by ideology whereas NATO is motivated by greed.

George, don't listen to these idiots in this blog. It's really just one or two guys that change their name to make it look like a lot of people are agreeing with them. I respect your service to this country (George). Even though the media sucks at reporting on it... a lot of people care about what you guys are doing.

Well said, George. My only grandson is at Bagram serving as security police. Whether or not we agree with the politics, we need to acknowledge and support out rroops who are in the midst of this nightmare, away from their loved ones, and sacrificing the comforts of home to serve. I think of all the soldiers every day and pray for their safe return. Thank you for your service!

Very well said George. I have a niece and Nephew fighting over there somewhere(they can't tell us where they are), a brother who will most likely end up in Afghanistan in a few months, and my daughter has a half brother over there. We don't like it, we live in constant fear everytime we hear about anyone being killed, but like you said, they volunteered, signed on for this because they want to make sure others have the rights we have, and to make sure everyone here in the US of A continue to have the rights we have. War sucks, but all you idiots who like to put it down, put our soldiers down, just remember, if it weren't for them putting their lives on the line, you wouldn't have the right to continue with your foolishness. God Bless all of our service men and women abroad and at home fighting to make this a better world for us all.

Kathy, maybe if people ignored this obscene war long enough,it might go away. But that's only wishful thinking because MIC (the military-industria-complex) won't let it happen and many more young men will die needlessly just so the right-wing politicians can promote their careers and the war profiteers can line their pockets I'm sorry to say.

Right wing? This is a joint effort on the part of both Dems and Repubs. If Dems really wanted us out of there, they could push it through just as they have everything else so far.

CNN; the WORLD WIDE LEADER IN NEWSl sends us the Lindsay Lohan 90 day probation issue and the US lost 6 today. What am I missing? Where is our news? EXCUSE ME? We are losing soliders every day and THEY ARE ON THE BOTTOM LINE in a little blurb! WHAT? The WORLD LEADER in news had better start reporting news. As an Army Mom with a kid in Afghanistan; I want to know and I go to BBC or CBC to get the info. Freedom of the Press? Yep.

Kathy,in order to get the unbiased truth about the war you amost have to go to Mexico and buy a Spanish language newspaper because here in this country the right-wing thugs (or MIC) control the press and that's that!

Couldn't agree more Kathy. Total loss of priorty, the world has gone mad. Get our kids out of there and send congress to replace them. CNN does not show the daily death toll as it did under Bush...I wonder why?
