Official: Donkey cart explodes at police post, killing 3 children

[Updated, 4:26 p.m.] Officials now say at least three people were killed in the blast. Four others were wounded, officials said.

Zalmai Ayoubi, spokesman for the Kandahar government, said three children were killed by the blast, and two police and two civilians were slightly wounded.

A spokesman for the Taliban, which claimed responsibility for the bombing, said 11 people were killed in the explosion.

"Today's donkey cart bomb explosion was on foreign forces, which killed 11 foreigners and four were injured," Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi said.

Ahmadi said the bombing was in response to the planned U.S.-led offensive to oust Taliban fighters from the volatile Kandahar region this summer.

"Our message in this is to tell them we are present here and now we are showing our power, too," Ahmadi said.

[Published, 11:46 a.m.]

A donkey covered with explosives and carrying a remote control detonator blew up at a police post Monday in the city of Kandahar, killing a boy and wounding four other people, officials said.

Zalmai Ayoubi, spokesman for the Kandahar government, said a young boy was killed by the blast and two police and two civilians were slightly injured.

The attack took place at the Fazladding Agha escort post of the Afghan National Police in Kandahar, said Mohammad Shah Khan, assistant police chief.

Infidels are not allowed to kill children and donkeys.
Need to be licensed for that. Takes a lot of training in Taliban camp.

Let us have more focus on the cultural, political, and economic situations in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iran as well as who do these interact with that of Lebanon, Syria, Israel, and that of China and Russia.

Everybody is watching: the losers and winners of WWI, WWII, Vietnam War, Korean War, etc.

Do we need to have another global war? At the moment, I think, we are just checking how effective are our latest weapons of mass destruction at the poor people around us.

Or let us wait until we can perfect unmanned weapons of mass destruction then we go to the deepest bowels of the earth and watch more of how effective these are?

The most effective one is that that can implant a super mega-bomb into the bellyof this planet and blow it up to kingdom come with all of us getting powderized.

Anybody who want to try? Yes you can – for what?

Are you serious? you are wondering where they get the assets to make these bombs. and then another retard asks about the dang donkey. You people should come over here and see for yourself what it is like. Grab a history book or two, one that dates back to the Russians, and then now to the coalition and do the histroy. I don't know, Maybe the poppy fields come to mind. which produce 2.8 billion dollars a year. you don't need much money to build a bomb, and any monkey can detonate it.

Ever see one of those movies where the bad guy is literally unmasked and you discover he was a "trusted" good guy at one point? And then you realize the "good" things he was doing actually set the good guys up for failure? That crosses my mind every time I read news articles like this. Beware of the enemies that the media and the government define for you.

To this day, I have never heard a sustained Islamic voice opposing this behavior. There have been a few voices here and there, but not a serious and sustained opposition by the billions of people who embrace this religion. I don't believe for a minute that if Palestinians and Israelis reach a peace settlement that the suicide bombers will cease. Or that if Americans leave Iraq and Afghanistan that all will be back to normal. They will not cease until the world is under the umbrella of Islam. Of course there will be no peace between Palestine and Israel, because each side believes God favors them more. This has been the story of the world. And we all have the audacity to deny two men or two women from loving each other. We think God loves us more, so we try to end these loving relationships. We are all in competition for Gods love and will do whatever it takes to get his attention. Even if it means killing a donkey, a child, 3 children, 11 children or 20 children. These insurgents are so messed up that they demand we give the proper numbers of children that they killed. It wasn't three they demand – it was 11. They demand a perfect scoreboard of dead babies!

I am beginning to come to the sad conclusion that the dead ones over there are the only ones at peace. The children that won't have to struggle with poverty or forced marriages and the donkey–well I've seen how they treat animals there and it is no life for any creature. As long as Islam continues to ruin the quality of life for that country, sadly, the only ones who may escape pain and lifelong suffering may be the dead.

The article said that the donkey was covered with explosives. So, no one noticed the donkey wandering around the town with explosives strapped to him? It's not like it's a particularly speedy animal. I just picture a little donkey, much like the beloved Eeyore, walking slowly under the weight of all the explosives, and then - he was gone.

So sad. These people are sick cowards that have to use animals to do their dirty work.

I believe they have covered every one of these things so there is no doubt in my mind that 'Heaven.' is not their destination.

Vietnam a thriving nation??? Swamper, what color is your kool-aid? The North Viets killed all who opposed them after we pulled out. Millions were killed in Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. They 'thrive' because no one is left who opposed their ideology, or if they do, they won't say so for fear of death. That is not thriving, that's control, plain and simple. That kind of thinking is what lead to the rise of the Nazi party in the 30's. Kill all who oppose you and sure, the rest will 'thrive'.

I agree with Gary G. Where is the Muslim outrge at these crimes against innocent children, women and animals? Where is the "religion of peace". No one will believe Islam is a reliogion of peace until there is widespread visible and serious outrage among muslims of the world. They must feel pretty impotent to act in this manner. It's a sad day when the only "strength" you can show comes in the form of atrocities like this. Shame shame shame. Wake up Muslims, your religion has been taken over by SATAN and the SONS of STATAN. No one is fooled by their false rationalizations about why they do the things they do. It is sickening. These men are sociopathic murderers. Their father in Hell must be well pleased with them! Using kart IEDs isn't new. It's not because they ran out of vehicles to use or because they're too scared to strap on a suicide vest, it's because it's unexpected. The Taliban are not trying to fight honorably or to win the hearts and minds of their people. They're terrorists. They lead by fear. They want to cause as much destruction as possible. They try to influence the local population by pressuring them through violence.

And why are so many people concerned about welfare of the donkey? In the spectrum of the situation I hardly believe it holds any relevance. What about all of the Afghan translators who are killed for working with coalition forces? What about all the families that are killed for one of them standing up against the Taliban? None of you are demanding more stories on the deaths of innocent fellow humans. There are heinous things happening in that country, but the media won't publish them any more because they don't want to lower the morale of the US population. Truth.

    2. The Taliban detonated a DBIED (Donkey-Borne Improved Explosive Device) that killed some civilians in Kandahar. While their deaths are tragic (to include the donkey), this is not a new tactic and this is not big news.

So, what story does CNN.com lead with? The DBIED in Afghanistan!
