Residents stone, slash would-be suicide bomber to death

KABUL, Afghanistan - A suicide bomber wearing a vest laden with explosives was killed by locals Thursday in eastern Afghanistan before he was able to detonate, police said.  The incident occurred in the Muqur district of Afghanistan's Ghazni province, according to Kheyal Mohammad Sherzai, a police chief in the province.

The suicide attacker was from Pakistan's Warizistan area, authorities said.

The people who intervened in the incident pelted the man with stones and slashed him with knives and were able to kill the man and give the suicide vest to police.

As one act of violence leads to another, where can we expect anyone to learn how to put an end to it? Physical force and control has but temporary benefits. until the heart and mind of a person is reached through love and logic and reason, there can be no end to violence.

This is the great example of what we should be pushing for because fighting terrorists with conventional tactics does not work anywhere, not even in Israel. Let the fundamentalists fight and kill each other...the way they have been living long before monotheism came to be in the Middle East.

Delighted to read this story!. The Taliban is a plague to Afghanistan and has hijacked Islam. May peace return to that beautiful country and its people.

This is what needs to be promoted thoughout the region. Once the locals show a common force of resistance and disaproval the fear mongers will fear.

I am so happy to hear that there are still normal people around with courage and bravery. This should be encouraged in the media of those countries. There should be counter-propaganda going on to inform the people who still believe in the Taliban and islamism that it's all a big lie and they will only destroy themselves and be destroyed by the people they think are doing a "good" job to "save" their country from the infidels. It's a sick ideology pretending to be a religion so we don't dare be against it, otherwise we are considered racist and anti-islam. That is exactly what they want because their "holy" book dictates them to fight against people who are against their religion, so it's all perfectly legal as far as they are concerned.

Very nice, I'm glad they were able to stop him. A welcome relief from the stories about innocents being killed. But, they must have been lucky; I imagine that either the fuse didn't work or something else happened to prevent the bomber from detonating before he was discovered. Comments about arming themselves and otherwise protecting themselves, etc. are pretty naive, if you ask me. You think that people stand around passively while suicide bombers walk up to them? You think there aren't guns aplenty among the citizens of Afghanistan? What are they going to do, preemptively gun down anyone who looks like they're wearing a bomb under their clothes? I imagine that most of the time it's pretty difficult to catch them before they detonate. I still would like to have a rational, public discussion about why these people are willing to kill themselves in this manner. Even if their rumored religious beliefs about the afterlife are a factor, it still doesn't add up for me. What makes them so desperate? What makes them feel that their lives can be thrown away like that? I suspect the answers would be quite illuminating.

It's the police's responsibility to clean up afterward!! for all you people who think the police are there to protect you. this article is for you! the police/army wouldn't have protected them.. they would've cleaned up afterward. If someone breaking into your home, its up to you and your 12 gauge to protect yourself, and the police will clean up afterward... 911 response time is 6 mins. i can break into your house and kill you and kidnap your 6 y/o in 6 mins.

The Officers and policy makers of Allied Forces and the Afghan Forces should come to India and study, the way militancy was eradicated in Punjab and North-East parts of India.
I am referring to Punjab, a case to study and more relevant to present situation prevailing in Afghanistan and Iraq. I am not mentioning Pakistan, because that is a rouge state and has terrorism and militancy as a core state policy. They are in any case doomed and i see no future for that nation. We may not find a country with that name, in South Asia, after few years. The international community may have to divide that nation into five nations, just to contain and dismantle militant production & assembly lines. Only then the aid being given by donor countries will reach the needy people of Pakistan and Afghanistan.
All complex problems have simple solutions, Mr Obama. I have some only for you which i can not write here for obvious reasons. JAI HO

This is a really good sign that the people of Afghanistan are encouraged enough to fight back. I hope this story makes the rounds with the local population so others will realize they do have the power to fight back.

  23. Peace

Ordinary people who have once been maimed for fear of their lives because nobody would protect them if they would get back to terrorists, now began standing up, Why? because they know, perhaps, they have now somebody to turn to who would come to their rescue & protection [.i.e. the coalition forces, local forces, etc.] if terrorists would fight back on them. Remember, it's the trust that makes them secure. That's what they need esp. these very ordinary citizens could not run away from their homes when atrocities come to their neighborhoods. So, to avoid backlash, people remain silent & unmindful even if individual rights are at stake & been abused.

This is what I am talking about, the people have to stand up to these mad men who's only destiny is hell! They think that if they kill the enemy that they will go to heaven and get praise from God for the insanity that they do here on earth. It is a good thing that the residents found this crazed man before he could blow himself up and kill many other people with him. There probably are many more in Warizistan that would put on a suicide vest. So we must pick up the drone attacks in the area if Pakistan does not take full control over the area! They are using the tribal areas as a safe haven to plan attacks inside Afghanistan and the coalition along with the Pakistan army need to go in and kill these people along with the tribal chiefs who allow them to plan attacks against Afghanistan and the coalition!
